That said, please excuse the dated - and incorrect - housing arrangement Li'l Critter is featured in.) Shortly after Dixie came Li'l Critter. Once my young sister discovered I had a hamster, she wanted one of her own, too. I took the bus to the pet store and picked this little cutie out. I fed her apple bits as we rode the bus back home and was so excited for my sister to meet her. Well, sister wasn't too excited. "Eewww! She looks like a rat!" she exclaimed and she told me she didn't want her. I couldn't return her to the pet store as that just seemed cruel to "discard" the little cutie just because sister didn't like her. So I decided to keep her. I had only had Dixie a month and suddenly I had two! Her gender was a mystery to me for quite some time. Yes, I know there are *obvious* bits if she had been a male, but I was confused by her youth. So I named her Li'l Critter as she reminded me of the creatures from the children's book series and it was a perfectly gender neutral name. You know - just in case cherries dropped later on.
