Reading material was important for his customers. From simple children’s books to more advanced novels, he enjoyed glancing at them.
Words. Barriers of language. A unison of cultures and meanings.
A bit bitterness was in his throat, acid that needed to be swallowed down and forgotten. Had it been a different life, he thought he’d be quite the teacher. The risks that came with blending in as a human was too dangerous, even at his current profession of being a tutor, so for now, that dream was pushed aside.
His routine included him exploring the various bookstores in every available ward, so he ended up in a store he didn’t recognize. It didn’t matter much to him, but he couldn’t help but notice that another customer was having trouble reaching a book.
A young girl. Small. She’s reaching for a book that’s too far.
He strolls over to her, eyeing the book her fingers can’t grasp before grabbing it himself. His curiosity left him glancing at the spine before handing it over to her.
“Is this what you wanted?” It almost felt foreign to speak English; the only time he did nowadays was talking to his sister. “Japanese is a bit hard, but you’ll get used to it.”
