One major thing that bugs me in the Owl house fandom is how people react and try to “cancel” the characters when there’s a range of what people do and how it effects the other characters. For example, a lot of people hate Camilla for sending Luz to the Reality Check Summer Camp and yeah, maybe that wasn’t the best choice but as a parent in a world where if you don’t conform you don’t survive, it makes sense. Camilla loves Luz the way she is, but you want your kid to succeed and be okay, and also Luz did some things that did warrant her getting in trouble. I think you can list out the flaws of any character in the show and the bad things they’ve done but it really doesn’t matter because everybody messes up. It does matter when it’s repeated behavior of somebody who isn’t going to stop. It doesn’t mean the people effected by those who harmed them are just going to forget. I don’t think Willow or Hunter are going to totally forgive the people who hurt them that are their allies now and that’s fair. And some people don’t deserve forgiveness. But there’s also a level of understanding for these characters where, like yeah, Hunter doesn’t deserve forgiveness for everything he’s done. Neither does Lily or Amity or Darius or even Eda a little bit. Because they have done bad things. And it’s the choice of the people they harmed whether or not to forgive them. And you know, like some people can be forgiven and you don’t need to “cancel” a fictional character for screwing up or making a choice that negatively effected somebody else.
*This is NOT about Belos, Kiki, and Odalia because all three of them don’t deserve redemption or forgiveness. They went above and beyond the ability to be forgiven. I don’t mind sympathetic takes on them and I’m a little more understanding of Kiki but I do want to make it clear that there’s a difference between making a bad decision and abusing a kid. As far as Odalia thinking she’s doing “what’s best” for her kids, “what’s best” shouldn’t include the deaths of other people lmao.
