Who accidentally pushes a door instead of pulling/vice versa: I feel like probably Alastair, but only because he’s never fully paying attention when he is with her. He’s always like starting at her longingly which causes him not to exactly know what he is doing all of the time.
Who doodles little hearts all over the desk with their initials inside them: Definitely Mary.
Who starts the tickle fights: Alastair
Who starts the pillow fights: Mary, because she’d most likely hit Alastair with a pillow to get him to stop tickling her.
Who falls asleep last, watching the other with a small affectionate smile: Alastair. He’s still in awe that a girl like Mary would ever pick someone like him and he can’t help himself.
Who mistakes salt for sugar: I feel like this could honestly be either of them.
Who lets the microwave play the loud beeping sound at 1am in the morning: Mary. She seems like the type who is a heavy sleeper and is like “You get it, I’m sleeping.”
Who comes up with cheesy pick up lines: Definitely Alastair because he is a cheese ball when it comes to her.
Who rearranges the bookshelf in alphabetical order: Both. They both seem like the type to do something like that.
Who licks the spoon when they’re baking brownies: Mary! I feel like Alastair would reprimand her for it and list off all the possible diseases that come with eating undercooked batter.
Who buys candles for dinners even though there’s no special occasion: Mary.
Who draws little tattoos on the other with a pen: Probably Mary because Alastair has no artistic talent whatsoever.
Who comes home with a new souvenir magnet every time they go on vacation: Alastair. He’s a total geek like that and would probably have a collection that is framed and everything.
Who convinces the other to fill out those couple surveys in the back of magazines: Mary and Alastair probably takes them way too seriously as they do them.

Though he wanted to be alone, the curly headed boy knew it was best not to argue with her. They were both far too stubborn to get anywhere productive and he wasn’t feeling up to a back and forth with her right now. With a slightly sniffle and a thankful glance in her direction, Alastair stretched himself across his bed, leaving just enough room for her to crawl up next to him. “Fair enough.” He sighed, a large hand patting the space beside him as a signal for her join him. “Don’t tell any of the other boys that I had a Gryffindor in my bed, they’ll never let me live it down.”

first of all, if anyone fights you on that, it’d be 100% a dick move - but i understand the rationale behind you finding reasoning :) since chronic illnesses for the most part come with costly necessary care, maybe the family can’t afford any remedy?
but see that isn’t really true? my mom and i are both chronically ill and the only really costly things are, like, doctor visits and sometimes visits to the ER, physical therapy occasionally, and two medications each. like it costs more than most peoples’ heath care but still not a lot more i guess? and then like i would see the family putting their money towards the remedy instead of the care more? idk if i’m making any sense but thank you so much!!
