hi friends! just wrote a short lilyjordan fic I posted on ao3 but I thought i'd put it here too (it's in two parts; part two will be posted later)

A Light In the Storm

It didn't feel quite real. Jordan stood quietly in the crypt, one hand on the smooth cold surface of the rolling table, staring into Elaine's lifeless face. It had only been a few minutes since she, Bug, Nigel, and Lily had sent Garret and Peter in the helicopter to the hospital but it felt like hours -no days- had passed.

Jordan's hair was still up in its ponytail but strands of it were now coming loose and falling into her eyes. She'd barely known Elaine, only really spoken to her in the context of work. But she couldn't shake the way she'd said what she had to Elaine today. Unable to hold it back any longer, Jordan let out a sob and fell to her knees, gasping.

Soft arms caught her and held on tight. Jordan turned her tear stained face to find Lily kneeling there next to her, tears in her eyes, as she clutched at Jordan.

"Shh," Jordan could hear the tears in Lily's voice. "You're safe, Jordan. I'm here."

Jordan shifted and moved her arms so she was holding Lily as tightly as Lily held her. "I can't believe she's gone."

"I know," Lily said softly, her forehead gently coming to rest against Jordan's own. "It's not your fault, Jordan, it's not your fault she's gone."

Jordan let out a sob in response and let herself fall onto Lily's shoulder. The redhead pulled her even closer.

In the distance, Jordan could hear Nigel and Bug talking quietly and the distance roar of the helicopter returning but none of that seemed to matter right then. She tightened her grip on Lily and felt the other woman press a kiss into the top of her head in response.

For the first time since Peter had fainted a few hours earlier Jordan felt really truly safe.

so I didn't imagine lily taking a course in counselling, it's just I misremembered. she did study, but it's a correspondence course instead of going to night school.... goddammit do I have to rewrite my shit now *sigh*
