Ume don't get rid of Chika's good boy, you'd owe him another one.

Kaji had growled the words so confidently, only for them to turn to dust in his mouth as soon as Natori responded. The auburn-haired leader needling just right at the open wounds that he knew would tear Kaji apart. Kaji didn’t flinch away from the weight on his shoulders, suppressing the shudder that tried to crawl up his spine. At most, he grit his teeth together, turned away where Natori couldn’t see. But he’d know…he always knew.
Kaji hated Natori. Hated the metaphorical leash and collar that was choking him. Hated the beast pacing inside his chest. And most of all…he hated himself. For needing Keel, for needing Natori. For needing the godawful iron grip that the leader had on him, the only one who could actually, truly, tame it. Even Hiragi couldn’t, his hero only suppressing the monster…bottling it up.
Because of what you did….Bile rose in Kaji’s throat at the memory. No different than blood between his teeth. He could’ve hurt them…he could’ve…His hands shook and he balled them into fists at his side to hide it.
You cannot fight your nature. His thoughts repeated Natori’s words like a mantra, burned into his mind long ago. When did his inner thoughts replace themselves with Natori’s honeyed words? When did he start to lose himself entirely? When did he look at the beast and start to wonder where the line between them fell? Or if it had disappeared entirely?
The other’s logic was dubious, a part of Kaji knew that. But Kaji had neither the wisdom nor the drive to refute it. Rationally, based on experience, he had to believe that bottling up the rage – hiding the beast away – had led to the inevitable outcome of turning on the people he cared about. The longer he refused to answer to the violence in his veins, the harder it was to control. If he let it out now and again, in little instances…like a pressure cooker blowing off steam…he wouldn’t explode. Or so the logic went. And so far…it was working.
Or perhaps it was simply the ever constant fear that if he didn’t obey then the rest of the grunts or the VIPs or even Natori himself would try to beat him senseless too. And as much as he didn’t fear for his own safety all that much anymore, it still hurt. And inevitably, he’d injure someone else in the process. It just wasn't worth the fight. Kaji eyed the “guest”, they were basically a trespasser for now. Nameless. Better them than Kaji or someone else he might have grown even slightly close with. Natori would make it hurt if he disobeyed. He knew exactly how to do it, every time.
It was what Kaji wanted, right? To be controlled, to have no other choice but to make the beast obey. He hated it.
Kaji’s grit teeth turned into a grimace as the discomfort of Natori’s tightening grip spread through his shoulders. The guest was looking between the two of them with terror in their eyes. Kaji wondered if the other knew who he was. Some did. Some didn’t.
“Fine,” Kaji bit out, forcing his words carefully to try and mask any suggestion of his turmoil or true feelings. As if he could really hide much from Natori. He shrugged his shoulders roughly, stepping forward out of the boy’s grip. “Get off.”
There wasn’t much of a pause between Kaji prying himself from Natori and the punch he slammed into the “guest's jaw. Just a few seconds, just enough for the other to take in a breath. Maybe they had planned to beg, or bargain. It didn’t matter now. Kaji didn’t give them time to speak up.
It took three hits for the static to deafen him, two more for everything else to fade into a blur. The beast stepped into his place then, raining hits down mercilessly on a helpless form. Kaji wouldn’t stop now until he was ordered, until the leash was pulled just right. That was how it worked.
This is what you are. This blood on your hands. That’s you. It will always be you. You cannot fight your nature.

There was little she loved more than to sing; her heart poured from her lips, her voice a gift to the wind that whispered through her hair. Accompanied by the gentle splash of the fountain and the bustle of the square as people filtered about their day, Rosalyne naturally attracted the occasional onlooker, some curious, some appreciative of her voice.
Upon noticing Rostam, her song faded, as did any lingering attention along with it - all attention except for one, whose focus mattered more than any other individual. Rostam's smile, his caress of her cheek, warmed her far more effectively than the sun beaming down. Her eyes brightened in response, accepting the bundle of flowers with delighted hum.
Although she basked in their floral scent, her gaze never wavered from her beloved's face.
"My love..." Her words came at a private murmur, as if she would allow not even the gods to eavesdrop upon this moment. With her free hand, she reached for his, barely containing her own desire to throw herself into his embrace with a mere squeeze. "Did you just return to town? I've also missed you, oh so dearly."
His duty carried him away from her far too often.
