Best friends. It was really the only way to sum up how they felt about each other. Save for maybe Albus, there wasn’t anyone else Lily would rather go to with something. For Isaac, there was only Lily. When they were fifth years, their lives were still rather carefree, so when Lily stumbled upon Isaac in a less than cheerful mood, she had made it her duty to cheer him up. It didn’t work out too well, but her efforts weren’t in vain. That was the first time Isaac ever spoke about his family with her. It wasn’t much to start, but on the anniversary of his brother’s death, he decided it was finally time for him to open up a little bit. They spent the whole afternoon together in one of the courtyards, just out of view of the world. Story after story of Cam came pouring from his lips. Isaac spoke of how much he missed his brother, even of how sometimes his heart ached at the mere thought of his brother being gone. Isaac laid stretched out across the grass with his head resting comfortably in her lap. The sensation of her gentle fingers running through his hair was so calming that there was no part of him that wished for her to stop. So there he stayed, comforted by her touch and smile, waiting for the day to end. For the first time since Camden’s passing, the anniversary wasn’t all bad and she was the one to thank for it; Lily, his best friend.
