District Eleven’s Victors (canon and oc) 🪲

August Lowchard, 8th Games, Capitol Ampitheatre

motif: Tree Swallow

District 11's first Victor, August was a quiet but sweet tribute, with an incredibly beautiful singing voice that he was known in his small regional area of the District for. His weapon was a sling, which he used a few times when other tributes got too close. His Games ended up lasting for 4 days (may be changed), very long for the archaic games era, and August often sang quietly to himself. This was unfortunately how Siren Bulwark, D4 and staunch loyalist, found him, taking him by surprise and disarming him. The two grappled, and Siren's knife ended up cutting August's face and neck before he managed to finally overpower her and win. The scarring on his neck and mouth made him unable to sing without discomfort, and his voice, he felt, was no longer beautiful. August faded into obscurity back in District 11, with many assuming he had died, until many years later (which I will elaborate on)

Seeder Clementine, 32nd Games, Monoculture 'Forest'

The second Victor for District 11, Seeder went into the Games at 15 years old, finding herself in a forest far different to 11's lively ecosystems. The arena was in an area designated for logging, with one type of tree and almost no other natural plants or animals. The Games dragged on and many tributes starved. Seeder was used to finding her own food, with a difficult home life to say the least, and managed to make it into the late Games, terrified and malnourished. As one of the only tributes left, she was hunted down, and constantly hiding. Eventually her pursuers became exhausted due to starvation and almost all died. The last one, tracking her footsteps, got very close and in a moment of desperation she left her hiding spot behind a tree, and strangled the pursuer to death with the sleeve of her shirt. Seeder really loves hiking and in general is a fairly solitary person, despite being very kind and sympathetic. She needs to be alone sometimes!! She has a very morbid sense of humour, which i headcanon Chaff picks up from her.

i dont like making female characters just.. motherly, its fine to do i just want her to have more depth.. chaff definitely latches onto her post victory and shes as supportive as a very traumatised person can be.. but she has no intention on mothering other adults. shes very kind to her tributes and younger victors though. Seeder has past experiences with alcoholism before her Games, possibly a family friend, family member or parent I haven’t decided, but this is something that causes some tension in Seeder and Chaff’s relationship, as she struggles to be around anyone who is drunk (making the Capitol a difficult place for her as well).

I like Maria howells seeder but I wanted to reflect katniss’s book description of her more, so atptverse seeder is afroindigenous, her hair is naturally 3b texture but she likes the look of a silk press although she changes it up sometimes

Chaff Johannas, 45th Games, Tropical Terrace Farmland

Mentored by Seeder, Chaff did very well in his arena, finding plenty of food in the humid climate and managing not to become too dehydrated. He fought with a short spear, and ofc ended up with a lower arm amputation. Chaff always had an interest in boxing but after victory it becomes a form of physical therapy both for him to zone out for a bit and to maintain strength in his left arm after the amputation, unfortunately it’s not enough to keep him from eventually turning to alcohol as an alternative coping mechanism. Chaff gets very attached to Seeder, both bc like.. trauma., but also his personality is just prone to that, he forms very strong attachments to people very quickly. I was thinking about doing some research on personality disorders because i see traits of some in his behaviour, but i wouldn't want to create a character that was a stereotypical portrayal so im not solid on that yet. I also may make him Haymitch's mentor !! although im not sure about that. he is also bisexual ^_^ and truly a very caring person who protects his community and loved ones as best he can, although he cannot protect himself from The Horrors sadly.

i think the capitol would for sure make his interest in boxing into a "he cant stay out of fight thing" as Effie says in canon, but its not really that at all. he is an alcoholic and prone to impulsive behaviour but i dont think hes a violent person deep down. If I ever wrote anything looking at canon characters, I may make Chaff Haymitch’s mentor for the 50th Hunger Games, and possibly give Haymitch a one-sided teenage crush on him. (Bi Haymitch truther). They might get a little gay with it in their 40s too who’s to say.

Rowan Kitt, 57th Games, Concert Stadium

Mentored by Seeder, Rowan breaks the trend of the D11 tribute thriving in a more natural arena, as she wins in what is essentially a rock concert stadium, with insane pyrotechnics, and painfully loud speakers that would go off occasionally . sometimes theyd broadcast the whispers of tributes trying to hide... rowan's weapon is a battle axe, inspired by guitars often being called axes .. YAY and maybe he figures out how to disadvantage the other tributes by using the speakers to broadcast sounds that throw them off his trail, or plugging her ears and making a really loud sound to disorient others.. I'm not fully sure. But anyway!! Rowan is my absolute blorbo. he's bigender and bisexual (gay both ways #swag) and has an unsettling autistic stare 💖 She's into music of almost any kind, especially rock, jazz, might think of more specific tastes once she’s existed for longer than like a day oops. And also a collector of colourful things. But!!!!!!!!!!! this is my favourite part. he gets really interested in d11 music history, and hears about the first ever d11 victor, The Stifled Songbird, August Lowchard.... and ends up very obsessed with his story! so long story short she tracks him down (he is miserable and alone) and they bond over music, breaking down August's self imposed isolation and reigniting his love for song. and he maybe becomes part of 11s victor community i dont know... and im not sure whether i want August alive at the time of the 3rd QQ.. maybe Chaff volunteers for him idk.. but yeah and hes everyones grandpa now.

Also Rowan’s hair is very much inspired by a style from @/sheissoular on Instagram

Blight Sapcote - District 7 Victor

Blight Sapcote, 42nd Games, Island Cloister

motif: Greater Mastiff Bat

Born into District 7 in the midst of an infectious disease outbreak, Blight was one of many children named in an old D7 tradition: naming your child after a sickness, especially a tree disease, was thought to make them less appealing to death. Losing both parents very early in his life, Blight was taken in by his grandparents, who had little energy to spare raising a constant reminder of the loss of their son and daughter-in-law.

He was Reaped at 18 years old. The arena was an old monastery on a bleak island, the Cornucopia in the belly of the building. Every sound inside the monastery is amplified, disorientating and distressing tributes, while the strangely quiet but strong winds outside sweep away every sound on the rest of the island.

Blight escaped the monastery early in the Games, forming an alliance with Hyacinth Labelle, a District 11 boy he meets in the forest. The two survive together, Blight initially discomforted by Hyacinth's forthcoming and emotionally open nature (particularly when the other boy ends up shedding tears over his (recently-ex-) boyfriend back home), but they quickly become close friends (and maybe Blight is reading into it but... maybe there's something more there too.)

Unfortunately, the pair end up scouting out the island's cliffs, and here the wind sweeps away the sound of another tribute's approach, as well as Hyacinth's cries for help. Blight turns just as Hyacinth is pushed from the cliffside. He kills the attacking tribute, and goes on to win the Games alone, shutting himself off from becoming emotionally attached to another person ever again. Post-Victory, he's known as a quiet, boring man (although he does end up growing a moustache #epic). He is Reaped and dies in the 75th Hunger Games. :(((( SAD !!!

District Nine's Victors: the 3rd Quarter Quell 🌾

Vainglory Jay, 43rd Games, 49y.o. at QQ3

motif: border collie

Vainglory is District Nine's third Victor, mentored by Avarice Prairie. Both raised in one of Nine's semi-religious sects, Vainglory very much internalised the ideals of self-control and stewardship of others to an unhealthy degree. Raised by emotionally neglectful parents, Vainglory idolised Avarice Prairie and detested the behaviour of other Victors, as well as people he perceived as giving Nine its bad reputation. He Volunteered at 16 years old to become an example of 'the best of Nine', and confessed to his mentor, Avarice, that he had killed once before the Games, a 'necessary evil' as the victim was living a lifestyle he found unacceptable.

His weapon of choice were throwing hatchets. Post-Victory, Vainglory developed an eating disorder to cope with the lack of control he felt, but refuses to acknowledge the unhealthiness and believes he is merely providing an example of self-control. He is very much a Capitol loyalist.

Combe 'Honey' Holland, 55th Games, 35y.o. at QQ3

motif: greater honeyguide

Combe is District Nine's fourth Victor, mentored by Vainglory Jay. Unlike the majority of Nine's Victors, Combe was raised in a fairly urban area of the District and worked in food processing, primarily oils.

Born hard of hearing, Combe's parents luckily worked in a sector of Nine with a sizeable deaf/hard of hearing population (many from rural areas who moved for the support that more isolated communities could not offer), and the family was able to learn the local dialect of sign language. Despite Nine's pervasive attitude of hopelessness, Combe grew up more hopeful than despairing, hope that grew into anger at the Capitol and at the other Districts for the life she felt stuck in.

Reaped at 15, Combe used herself as bait to lead her arena's mutts towards other tributes, or to trick tributes into dangerous areas. After surviving multiple stings and bites from venomous mutts, Combe's immune system was compromised and she often experiences symptoms similar to allergic reactions that leave her dependent on Capitol medication. She has a close friendship with Nine's fifth Victor whom she mentored, Sweet Adkisson, and there are speculations the two are in a romantic relationship.

Reaping for the 75th Games

Nine's Victors did not expect any one of them to Volunteer for the other - an unspoken agreement that what would be, would be. In my mind, the Reaping for the 75th was rigged, and both Vainglory and Combe have reasons to have been reaped. Vainglory as a Capitol loyalist was considered likely to counteract the criticism of other Reaped Victors with his praise of the Capitol, and in general was kind of freaking audiences out - no one would really be too sad to see him go. Combe was Nine's most rebellious (living) Victor and her Victory, using the mutts against other tributes, was perceived by some as a rebellious act, similar to Haymitch's forcefield trick. Despite threats towards (and murders of) members of her family, Combe did not seem adequately manageable, and killing her off in the Games was acceptable retribution.

Both died in the Bloodbath, Vainglory being physically weak and disliked by many of the Victors, and Combe not having access to her medication, as well as also not being particularly well-liked. Despite being rebellious, she was not a part of the rebel plot as she held similar levels of vitriol towards the other Districts as she held towards the Capitol.

An odd, fickle cat, who changes her mind at the drop of a hat.

little bit of a redesign of my Cats OC!

shes pretty lazy and very affectionate, but she is very prone to being taken on a whim, and will declare that something or other is her new life’s purpose only to forget the next day. she’s a bit of a scatterbrain, fairly childish and often thinks in extremes, making her a somewhat fickle friend. she’s very taken by shiny things, and a bit of a hoarder in general.

She’d definitely enjoy sneaking onto trains and watching them go by so I imagine she’s fairly friendly with Skimbleshanks, and she’s good with kittens (until she gets bored and wanders off). Bonus without the white ‘makeup’ (I couldnt quite decide whether she’s a person in costume or a cat.. so . You get both I guess?)

I’m a day late but here are Minnow and Tassell’s Halloween costumes. (Modern au? Who knows) Minnow grabs stuff out of her cupboard last minute to go as a cowboy, and Tassell has a very elaborate masquerade outfit with knight inspirations . yayayayayya
