Moseley Road Baths
the deep end
Can't decide if I wanna go to the theater to see Backrooms. I used to love going to the movies alone. Backrooms has a special place in my heart because the liminal trend (specifically liminal pools) was one of the art ~inspirations~ that helped me out of my decade-long art block. Some of my first Blender art was liminal(ish) stuff like this:
I spent so much time on water. Just months on different water shaders, caustics, rendering and lighting setups. So many projects I never posted.
Tried the mannequin thing lol
Most of those project files are from 2022. The time really does pass anyway huh? Part of me feels nostalgic. Like I loved all the late nights just learning Blender and more modern 3d concepts. I'm happy that all the practice actually led to getting better. But at the same time I remember all those nights alone just working. And that hasn't changed. I wanted to prove to myself I could still make things even without a "real" 3d career, and I guess I did that. But I'm trying to figure out what's next. I want something that won't leave me feeling empty this time.
The creepy aspects of liminal art were always interesting. But I think the isolation of it comforted me. There's no people to be jealous of or to remind me that everyone else is out living a life while I'm just here. So I could spend a lot of time working in rooms like that in 3d. The pool in the mannequin one is a replica of a real hotel pool my family went to in the 90s. I converted some home movies to digital and took screenshots to recreate it.
Gross, old fake-rock pillars collecting dust.
I hate all these renders btw lol
I know these liminal pools art pieces are generally meant to invoke feelings of horror but I would absolutely be loving it. Give me the sound of echoey drips of water. Give me the smell of chlorine. Let me just float in the water calmly.
lowk on my liminal pools arc (made in Blender)
