Peter Dutton’s limp-wristed blunder; job offer for Albo?
It’s not every day the Leader of the Opposition gifts us with the perfect politically incorrect gaffe, but Peter Dutton gives it a red hot go! This time, he’s gone full ‘Boomer Facebook comment section’ by calling Prime Minister Anthony Albanese “limp-wristed”—a term historically used as a slur for effeminate gay men.
Now, look, we know Dutton isn’t exactly a linguistics professor (or a social etiquette coach, for that matter) but in 2024, most people have figured out that using outdated, homophobic slang in political discourse is a bit … well, limp-wristed in itself. Irony at its finest.
Dutton’s greatest fear: a soft handshake?
What exactly was Peter trying to say? That Albo isn’t tough enough? That his handshake isn’t bone-crushingly firm? That he doesn’t exude the hyper-masculine aura of, say, a Queensland cop staring down a teenage shoplifter?
If that’s the bar for leadership, we’d like to remind Dutton that some of the toughest world leaders—Jacinda Ardern, Angela Merkel and Volodymyr Zelenskyy—probably weren’t measuring their testosterone levels before making critical decisions.
Besides, if Dutton’s real concern is weak wrists, then we have to ask: has he ever tried to carry a Labor government while also balancing international relations, economic policies and an overworked press team? We reckon that takes some serious wrist strength.
Limp-wristed Albo’s next career move
But let’s get real—if, by some cosmic disaster, Albo does lose his job, we at QNews would like to officially extend an employment offer. Why? Because, as per our highly inclusive and extremely well-thought-out hiring policy, all cisgender men must be at least a little bit limp-wristed to work here.
It’s a crucial prerequisite, ensuring that we maintain the right balance of flair, wit and just enough sass to keep up with the demands of running an LGBTQIA+ news platform. If you’re not at least moderately fabulous, how will you survive the office gossip?
How will you contribute to our weekly RuPaul recap meetings?
How will you even begin to understand the difference between shade and tea?
So, Prime Minister, should the unthinkable happen, know that you’ll have a safe landing at QNews. Just be ready for the most important interview question of all: How do you feel about Cher?
Meanwhile, we’ll be over here waiting to see what outdated slang Dutton digs up next. Perhaps he’ll accuse Albo of being a “dandy” or a “fop”? Maybe he’ll bring back “confirmed bachelor” just for fun?
One thing’s for sure—his dictionary is as outdated as his political tactics.
Stay fabulous, Australia.
