I'm really interested in the new trend of LLM/LIM people feuding with each other over "prompt stealing" as like, the last person on earth who still cares about the "what kind of art is this exactly" question. cause the two things that make this art for me are 1. output selection (i.e. treating outputs as readymades, artist as curator) or 2. prompts that produce novel outputs.
in the former case "prompt stealing" is nonsense on its face. the whole place where the "art" enters is in selection; the prompt is... practically irrelevant?
the latter, more interestingly, would attempt to find spaces within the system that produce reliably compellingly *weird* results
in that case the output is irrelevant, so it... doesn't really matter if someone steals the prompt. in fact, prompt theft would be *the whole damn point*
but, like, to actually think about things that way you'd have to know anything or give a fig about the last CENTURY of art history. 🤷♀️
all these people actually care about is clout and marketability. it's so laughable seeing them portrayed as brave proletarians dismantling the petite bourgeois arts, they love the idea of being Individual Authors with an absolute claim over their creation!
