This show is NOT a musical. It’s just really wacky. And perhaps to prevent the BL from being censored, they had to highlight the love story of the only straight character in this show (it was barely mentioned in the original novel). Lin Kai’s character had fewer appearances in the novel, but because of this adaptation, he is now one of my favorites haha

I thought I already have all You Yao songs... Until I found Lin Kai's character song!! Surprisingly, it sang by his own voice actor. No wonder it transition so well. Its his voice actor singing the song! LIN KAI IS A SINGER. Whereas, LouZuo only have the English Alphabet song and Twinkle Star duet lolol

I think one of the reason why I love You Yao donghua is they did well in exploring Lou Zhu and Lin Kai's deep friendship. They are funny, felt natural, and most importantly, it has depth. Especially back then, after I read MDZS and TGCF where the MC have platonic relationships that fell apart but somehow the romantic relationship save them. I'm not saying JC, MQ and FX are innocent but from my perspective, both sides have their proplem. Not only those three, MC are as flawed as them so it gets tiring to hear when fandom only say JC, MQ and MQ are at fault. So You Yao and Priest novels felt like home to me. Yes, they still fight and they are flawed yet their friendship is as important as their love interest. Like donghua Lin Kai take it to another level by saying he admire the girl he love like how he admire his bestie lmaooo Its funnier in the novel because Zuo Yunqi tried to tear them apart but it didn't work lol But I guess I adapted my lesbian friend's way of thinking... That woman don't read romance if the friends are not treated fairly as romantic interest.

This focus in Lou Zhu & Lin Kai's friendship and their dreams for changes. Zuo Yunqi became the one who carries their dreams since he made the first step to put their plan in motion.

Translation is not perfect so I recommend to check out Missevan because this part is free. First part is from Mini Theatre: Drinking and the part when Lin Kai is tutoring Zuo Yunqi before the interview with Lou Zhu is from 1st episode part 2 of Medicine chapter after the ending song.

It still make me sad to hear this because just imagine Lou Zhu who's still pure like Li Ke when he first transmigrated. When he first realized that he became an accomplice to the emperor and sell out fellow transmigrators unknowingly, he know he no longer can wash his hands so he became jaded and became morally gray. Only Zuo Yunqi and Lin Kai understand him beyond his carefree villain-like facade. In a way, you can say Zuo Yunqi was used but Zuo Yunqi also use that opportunity to use them back and betray his father.
