Linda Ryan
Today's post comes from Brenda Shea (Director of Marketing and Community Relations) and Sue Considine (Executive Director) at the Fayetteville Free Library in Fayetteville, New York.
Linda Ryan is the Librarian we all, in this field, aspire to be. At the Fayetteville Free Library, there is no new staff member that does not at some point say, right out loud, during their inevitable “Linda Moment”, I want to be like Linda; I want to be THAT Librarian.
The most fortunate of us had the opportunity to have our own “Linda Moment”; I had my Linda moment for 10 years and I am a better Librarian and person because of it. Linda is my most valued mentor, my “go to” colleague and my Friend. Linda is the embodiment of a true, public librarian; her commitment to excellence in public service and her absolute commitment to the betterment and enrichment of the life of the community and every life in it is evident in all of her work both in and outside of the FFL.
Linda cannot go anywhere in CNY without someone instantly recognizing her and eventually acknowledging, “You are from the Library!" Linda IS the Library; and we strive to reflect her in all of us. The FFL is the successful, progressive, community center that is today much in part due to Linda Ryan.”
