Celebrating the season in Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche, Mexico

Linde made the holidays brighter for over 1,100 children this holiday season in Ciudad Del Carmen, Campeche, Mexico.

It was a complete celebration that included a visit from Santa (wearing a Linde blue suit) and his elves who delivered gifts to the cheering and excited students.  In addition, there was also a drawing contest in which school children were invited to submit drawings themed around Christmas and the Linde plant. The response was excellent, and there were more than 150 drawings submitted.

Linde is also undertaking several more initiatives within the community. Employees at the Cantarell plant have partnered with Instituto Campechano del Emprendedor (ICEM) and Junior Achievement for two important projects. The first project is to help women in the community learn new skills and shape new ideas that can help create jobs and provide additional income for their families.

The second project with the Junior Achievement program will have employees from the Cantarell plant  visit area schools and offer mentoring and life lessons that could change the lives of children. “We want to be good neighbors, which is why we’re in the community walking the walk,” said Lorena De Lima, Social Responsibility & Government Relations Manager, Linde Group, who is leading the efforts for the company. “This is only the beginning of what is to come.” De Lima said Linde believes that rather than simply offering grants, it’s important to give employees the chance to give back with their time. “They talk with children about family, and school work, and things like budgeting,” she said. “The children really respond. It’s great give and take and everybody gets a lot out of it.”

After two years of work, 13 future company leaders complete LEaD program

The Learn, Excel and Develop (LEaD) program, which includes three eight-month rotations in engineering/operations, commercial (sales and marketing) and supply chain/logistics, recently celebrated the dedication and perseverance it takes to complete its demanding requirements.

The accomplishments of the 13 graduates were highlighted during a virtual meeting with company leaders and the employees’ managers from across the U.S. The meeting included presentations by the graduates highlighting the work they did over the course of their rotations.

The program focuses on three paths: Engineering (focused on operations), Commercial (focused on applying an engineering background to sales and marketing) and supply chain/logistics (with a focus on product distribution).

"Every project presentation I attended was high quality and full of energy," said Ray Carr, Head of RAS Operations. "These were not just a report on what the graduates learned or experienced, even though that is very important. Every project also showed real complexity, achievement of tangible targets and clear value given back to Linde. I feel great about what the entire team of graduates has achieved and the success they can deliver in the future."

Added Gary Peterson, Head of Applications Engineering and Project Execution for Linde Region Americas, “I am always so impressed to hear the graduates present on all their rotations and experiences. It amazes me how quickly they learn and contribute to business wins, managing installations and safely starting up equipment. We train and challenge them and they deliver for Linde and our customers."

Linde’s interns depart with smiles

After a whirlwind tour of Linde facilities and the U.S.

Though they were only with Linde for a month, Annika Z. and Nathalie G. had time to contribute to the company, see New York and Washington, D.C., learn a lot about how a large company operates and form positive impressions of the United States and its people.

“Everything is so big,” said Nathalie, who interned in Corporate Communications. “The cars are bigger and the companies seem bigger and everything in the U.S. just seems larger than in Germany. We were very impressed.”

Annika, who worked in HR, said it was great to visit places she had only seen on TV, like the White House and Times Square in New York City. “Here you see the American flag everywhere,” she said. “People are so proud of their country - they love this country.”

Both attend the same high school in Germany and decided to intern for Linde together to experience life at a big company and see a bit of the world. They stayed with a host family near Linde headquarters in Bridgewater, New Jersey. 

During their assignment, the students visited company facilities in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and Stewartsville, New Jersey and were impressed to see that so many plants are run from one operations center in Stewartsville.

Nathalie said her time in Corporate Communications was eye-opening, adding that she was amazed at how much work the department is able to put out, and how important it is to the company that employees receive the message that they are part of one team.

Annika said she learned how much of a family a company can be, and how important HR is as a department – ensuring the company hires the right people and helps them reach their full potential.

“It was a great experience and everybody at the company was really nice to us and we appreciate that,” she said. “They would take the time to answer our questions even if they had a lot to do.”

Linde delivers lots of love

Linde volunteers in Barranquilla, Colombia

About 140 volunteers in Colombia recently took part in an annual volunteer program that focuses on visiting with and entertaining patients who are being treated under the company’s REMEO® program.

Derived from the Latin “I return home”, REMEO provides facilities and ventilation equipment that helps patients breath easier -- and, in many cases, gain their independence back by reducing or eliminating the need for a ventilator.

“It was a special occasion, something we do every year to meet some of the patients and entertain them,” said Jorge Ortegon of Colombia’s Human Resources department. “It makes for an unforgettable afternoon. And for our employees who aren’t with REMEO, it shows them the importance of the work we do.”

Linde Colombia offers facilities and at-home services in six cities. During their visits with patients, the volunteers -- nicknamed “The Command of Love” -- sang and helped the patients work on their fine motor activities, including drawing and painting. They also dropped off holiday greeting cards and festive decorations.

“This morning I was complaining a little to myself because I had to work more than usual,” said Ortegon. “But when you come and see the patients, you realize they would give anything to walk and breathe freely.”
