The classical infiltration of pop
This a trend that I've been noticing for a while now. One could probably go back to the 90's and early 00's with the huge mainstream success of Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli (POPERA!) and Andre Rieu (modern Waltz), but has really picked up steam in the past 10 or 15 years, with groups like Il Volo and Il Divo bring opera together with boy band pop, 2cellos and Tina Guo and Apocalyptica doing cello renditions of rock and metal, Lindsey Stirling bringing violin into dubstep and EDM, Black Violin doing the same with hip-hop, and David Garrett mixing classical repetoir with violin rock and metal. And we can't forget the runaway success of the Piano Guys!
