ughghgghghgh get through today, B! get through it
oh-- here, I’ll tell an inconsequential tale of good luck. When I got home from work I ran a load of laundry, since we were gone nine days and I went straight back to work and hadn’t caught up. Yesterday I’d done a load and put it up in the evening and left it there all night and the next day-- it was all Dude’s socks, and our towels, and things like that, because he was running out of socks and wouldn’t make it to the weeked, and because I hadn’t figured hanging things out at 5pm would be enough time for them to dry by dark.
So I figured on the same thing today, leave it out overnight and take it down in the afternoon when I got home from work. But I was more prompt, and the clothes were hung out by 4pm. And it was such a lovely day, a languid summer day, incongruous compared to our recent snows. So after dinner, just before it got dark, I went out and even the jeans were dry. So I took them down.
And this morning around 4, slightly too early to get out of bed, I heard it raining, and realized I didn’t have to leap up in a panic-- I had nothing out on the line.
It’ll be another lovely day I’ll miss most of today, but it’ll be nice tomorrow too and I have tomorrow off. This is how we live, we spend most of our time in windowless rooms doing tasks we don’t particularly care for. That’s our society.
