I have been absolutely OBSESSED with this series on Rhineland flax culture - this is a documentary from the seventies, filmed in a 150 people village in the Hunsrück about how they used to make linen - the entire process, from preparing the soil to finishing the yarn (and there's a sequel about weaving, too).

The documents are in German and have well-made German subtitles, so the auto-translated subtitles are also pretty good.

Here are some images -as promised- from the European Textile Network conference which was held in Haslach/Austria towards the end of July.

This year's theme was 'Garden of Eden' and the conference consisted of various workshops, tours, exhibitions in picturesque locations as well as inspiring lectures. I thoroughly enjoy attending the textile conference every two years (it is a biannual happening) as it is both a refreshing and stimulating experience.
