#linen thread

A new lace wip, two-up bookmark by jenny brandis. I've had a lot problems figuring the pattern out, some of them my own fault but not all. Perhaps it's because I'm still not the most adept lace maker but it shouldnt be so hard to figure out which bobbins go where and when. But I've got it worked out now thankfully.

so, I feel a bit silly asking but, I saw that you said in a reblog that you once worked at a linen thread mill in Ireland, and I was wondering… do you happen to know of any good linen thread producers currently in operation? particularly producers of very fine linen thread? I'm sure I have turned over every stone looking for linen suitable for very fine lace making and I really don't think it is made anymore (except maybe by like, a couple of galaxy-brained hobbyist hand spinners that I will never possibly find lol) but… I do dream!! and I figured I would ask just in case you have some sort of insider knowledge lol

That work in the Accounts Office at Barbour Threads was when I was 16, so half a century ago; any insider knowledge I might once have had is (a) well past its sell-by date and (b) long forgotten.

Even the factory has been closed for years.

HOWEVER: I put "Linen Thread Ireland" into Google and it turned up a bunch of linen thread in various colours, many of them on Etsy. 

These aren’t made by hobbyists!

Another place has plain white.

There’s also Swedish linen thread...

Whether any of it is suitable for your purposes I don't know: the search term “Linen Thread For Lacemaking” would seem sensible, though I’ll leave that to you since you’d know what kind of thread you’re looking for.

hiii could i know what thread do you use pls

Hello Anon, of course. I use a linen twine (25-30) for pretty much all my bindings. I have coloured ones of the same thickness which feel a tiny bit less sturdy, but I haven't had any trouble with those either. The twine I use is unwaxed and uncoated and I only pull them through beeswax or carnauba wax right before usage.
