A few thoughts… Go for it! Yuletiders love to go...

I’d say even if you only have a marginal interest in the fandom, something can be done and done well if you have talent, which you do. Maybe it’s not intense smut, maybe just fun and frivolous… the person will love it no matter what. Go for it!!!
Dear both (with apologies for the shared reply!) Thank you ever so much for your cheerleading! xx
@eventhorizon451: ooh, you flatterer, you.
@linepainter Thank you for sharing so much Yuletide experience. :) Interesting to hear that it’s possible to wish for fics without writing a full santa letter. I’d counted myself out as a receiver (*snort*: sorry, I can’t type that word without uninvited thoughts of Tom Hardy’s line as Ronnie Kray) because I feel that composing a thoughtful letter would take me at least as long as writing a short fic. ;)
But, perversely, I’m also a slow writer (with a long-cliffhanging WiP I’ll feel less wretched if I can update in time for the festive season, plus a separate sequel idea buzzing in the background). So, if I sign up, it’s a grey area whether I’ll be letting down those existing fics and readers (yet again), or whether a Yuletide sign-up will spur me to take the WiP where it needs to go next too...
Your point that taking on the challenge of writing for a new/different fandom can be more successful than playing safe is really interesting in that respect. I guess what I’m hoping is that the challenge of Yuletide will be enough fun (and achievable enough) to get me back into writing the other projects too. The last new thing I wrote this year (an auction fic) was a lot of fun to write and left me wanting to continue – but my chronic issue is that I ALWAYS lack time, not usually motivation as such... :/
Best of luck with your Yuletide letter! :) Aha, now I want to read it...
