THE CURTAIN RISES: silver!Yogi’s first appearances/impressions in Score 18, 59, 95

There’s a huge difference with every appearance that silver!Yogi makes, which is also affected by his situation at that time. All these also contribute to the impression he gives.

Score 19: (Rinoll arc) A very terrible first impression given to Gareki and us readers. After creating numerous vines when unconscious, silver!Yogi stands to cry broken tears while laughing madly. Then he does his trademark ‘Let’s do something fun and amazing. I’ll be very happy if you screamed as if you were laughing!’ line and screams.

Score 59 (Merumerai arc): Screams a lot while waking up. Proceeds to engage in casual conversation with Akari regarding his injuries and a little chat with Gareki before heading off to battle. At least there’s no crying this time although mad laughing and screaming still comes during the battle with Peka.

Score 95 (Reeberuganze? arc): Probably woke up in Yogi’s bed for some reason. Then roams around Circus’s Second Ship for a while before having a proper conversation with Gareki. Knowing silver!Yogi, he’s really calm.

The main differences between the third appearance and the first two:

no injuries vs a lot of injuries. it’s not explicitly mentioned anywhere, but we can always induce that silver!Yogi screams when he wakes up in Rinoll and Merumerai because pain is the first sensation he feels from Yogi’s sheer injuries. Then he proceeds to use his innate Varuga abilities to regenerate/heal these wounds.

safe environment (Circus ship) vs battlefield (1: in the middle of a battlefield, 2: a small break before going back to battlefield) Naturally this would contribute to silver!Yogi’s mental state. In a safe environment, silver!Yogi would be calmer and has no need to tap into his ‘flight and flight/battle’ mode which is uh, mad laughing and screaming.

From the first impression of him being a sadistic psycho, more depth of silver!Yogi’s character had been shown in Merumerai arc. When not fighting, silver!Yogi can be calm enough to have conversations with others. Until he gets upset, that is. But then it’s Circus fault for treating him so badly. Something might have happened in the past for Circus to do so (I’m speculating that it’s the issue of... sustenance), but for now, we don’t know.

In the course of these arcs in the main plot of Karneval, Gareki slowly gets to know silver!Yogi better. He was extremely shocked in Rinoll, given how he did not know anything about Yogi’s split personality and that laughing + screaming is very scarring. In Merumerai, he’s not so shocked, but he still doesn’t know the truth. Now that he also knows the truth, and due to his unique position, Gareki won’t be as biased against silver!Yogi as the rest of Circus.

I’m just hoping for more silver!Yogi development in upcoming arc and for Gareki to give silver!Yogi the understanding that he really needs. They’ve went such a long way from headbutt to proper conversation. Amazing.

Regarding unbiasedness, Nai would be a more suitable candidate (he even saw the good in silver!Yogi in his explanation to the rest in Merumerai) but for now, it will be Gareki until a silver!Yogi/Nai meeting gets to happen this time.

Choosing wrong answers in Dangan Ronpa trials would cause loss in poor Naegi's or Hinata's life and embarrassment for them, but some of them are really funny to see.
