Mari had been sitting on the letter for a few days, going through the motions of classes and school and everything with an air of detachment, distracted the entire time. It being from Greer was equal parts terrifying and frustrating, and yet Mari kept thinking about the possibility that Milo had something to do with it as well. She hadn’t spoken to anyone about its contents, too terrified about what it may mean, petrified about what she may have to admit. And it was making her feel like she was going to fall off the edge.
Genuinely, Mari felt like there was no one she could tell. No one she could talk to about this. It’s not like anyone knew the full scope of her and Greer’s relationship. But...there was someone who knew a lot of it. Which was how she found herself texting Link, asking him to meet her for coffee.
“I found a letter,” Mari said quietly once they were sitting at a table opposite each other, her eyes on Link’s for a beat before breaking the eye contact as she held up the letter, the distinctive writing of Greer visible on the outside, who it was from not needing to be further stated. “I was...given a letter,” she corrected. It certainly didn’t count as finding it when it had been left on her pillow.” I’m losing it, Link.”
