Learning how to use Rclone with Google drive
I used the following tutorial to a basic idea how to set it up:
Learn to use rclone, a command line tool for cloud storage with support for encryption.
And this video by STÆMPUNK TV to learn how to use RClone with RClone Browser:
With two remotes setup, I now have general access to my Google Drive folders and the Google Drive Computers sync folders, using advanced options for the root_folder_id in Rclone.
The Computers sync folders are read only, however. But I can still download from them onto my computer. This will be helpful still for my later plans of moving all my backups off Google drive and have consistent local backups at home and cloud backups elsewhere, such as Borgbase or other cloud backup services.
For now, I need to use my general access to the Google Drive folders to create manual backups via Rclone.
Update: I tried doing the syncing method in the above video buuut it didn't work for some reason. Anyway, moving to Borgbase it is. At least for my computer currently.
Next, I need to set up the following:
Incremental Encrypted Backups with deduplication onto Local Drive and Borgbase. With initial tests to ensure backups are working properly (test at least once a week).
Have incremental BKs daily, with keep archives for 3-6 months
Eventually move archives from Google Drive to another non-Google or non-Microsoft cloud service.
Once everything works, finally use CachyOS as my daily driver.
I know I keep repeating that with each update, but I just want to make sure because I am not going back to Windows.
Okay, I do have Windows LSTC IOT on my laptop, but that is just to access my HDDs that still have backups from my Win10 install. That will change, too, once everything is again, backed up for Linux use in the future.
