HARRY POTTER AU
They haven’t had too much time together as for lately, did they?
Hogwarts was in flames, not quite literally but Gilbert doubt it would take longer for that happen as well. Since the last year, after Dumbledore’s death everything went downhill, and, when Harry Potter and his closest peers didn’t appear for the school year, well, if that was not a bad omen, what else could be?
Death Eaters roamed through the castle, teaching, observing, censoring and chasing the reminiscent professors from the Dumbledore era. The other houses looked over their shoulders whenever a Slytherin student was nearby, each and every one of them were put into a same bowl of prejudice, as if each and every single one sorted into the Serpent House condoned the actions of Voldemort and his Death Eaters, as if there was none between them that could be as much as a target as anyone else.
Those were alone in this battle. Alone because they weren’t like what they were supposed to be but couldn’t convince the other’s they were different.
Gilbert sat alone on the Communal Room of the Slytherin house, his ears attentive though his eyes seemed glassy as they watched the soft waves of the lake through the window in front of him, sometimes a shadow of a creature would pass by but not even that was enough to take the seventeen years boy out of his thoughts. He had been lucky until now, that was for sure, his brother often would whisper that for him, and Arthur had told so too, he had been extremely lucky that up until now no one had discovered the muggle side of his family, assuming that he was pure blood - and ever since Gilbert had been ignoring his muggle grandparents, not for himself, but for the fear that they would be target. But by Merlin, cursed be him if he was going to hide himself like some coward.
Lucky but up until when?
Steps brought his attention, startling him for a second before he recognised the pattern. Arthur. He allowed himself to relax a bit as his best friend, and lover? was that they were now? were they labelling themselves?, sat by him on the couch. Gilbert blinked lazily and turned his face to look at the other boy, a small smile on his face - Arthur was one of the still good things inside that school and he was a fighter too, possibly more than Gilbert, and he had bruises and cuts all over to prove that.
His lips opened to say a simple ‘Hi’ but he never started the sentence, Arthur pulled himself closer to him, wrapping his arms around his body, head laying on his chest. Gilbert blinked several times, confused. He had known Arthur long enough to know that, albeit very touch inclined, he wasn’t very keen of doing so in such public place. His confusion, while still there, is replaced by a sudden feeling of comfort, as Gilbert wraps his arms around the other’s shoulders, pulling him close, and for that moment, for a couple of seconds, even if it is a lie, he feels like nothing bad can ever happen.
