top five songs you'll connect to 2014
1. The Trapeze Swinger, Iron & Wine I spent countless nights this summer crying to this song. Theres just something so tender, so gentle about loss. Different parts of this song apply to different parts of me- I'm a dreamer, alight with misery and want and uphill clawing. There's something terrifying about the trapeze act, those moments when you're in the air with nothing to hold onto and all that space to fall. I just want to be remembered.
2. Biting Your Tail, Iron & WineSomeday we all want nothing / and all forget that we'll get whats coming / someday i'll say the world was something / that we just couldnt change
3. The Motion ft. Sampha, Drake Everything I write is either for or about herDriving through Colorado, falling in love in the passenger seat.
4. Reckoner, RadioheadBecause we separate like ripples on a lake shore / in rainbows In in love with that one line. The sound somehow captures the light that i've been feeling inside me and it spills it all across the floor. so much light.
5. Birch Trees and Broken Barns, Caroline Smith and the Goodnight SleepsThis song could've been written about my childhood. He was the King of the Aspen Trees, I was the Queen of the Creek. I listened to this song as I drove to my old house last october, revisiting old haunts. I still mourn the children we used to be, knowing they'll never exist again.
