my life would actually be significantly different if i hadn't joined the gaehive
probably most importantly, i likely wouldn't have discovered that i'm trans as early as i did, which would have a major and chaotic impact on the trajectory of my life. i probably would have found another lgbtq+ online space, but the timing of my self-discovery and coming out is such that even a year or two of difference would have made a huge impact.
also, i probably wouldn't have stuck around scratch for so long. this would mean two things. firstly, i probably wouldn't have gotten very interested in programming, and secondly, i probably wouldn't have gotten interested in raycasting and hence, 3d rendering.
the experience of managing the gaehive has definitely changed me and my personality in significant ways; some good, some bad. i think that i've gotten somewhat better at handling myself online and resolving conflicts, but i also think that my managerial tendencies have spilled out into other aspects of my life. i'm too used to being the one managing and being looked up to, and i really think that's had a negative impact on me. i also don't think that the experience of trying to prevent people from committing suicide at age [redacted, but pretty young] was a good one.
i'm grateful for the gaehive and everything that it's given me, but i do wonder what kind of a person i'd be without it, and if that'd be better than what i am now
