I feel like I learn something knew about twee everyday! Today, it was about Angora Napkin, a pilot for an adult cartoon that never got picked up. The pilot itself is not really my taste in humor, it’s pretty crude and a bit gross. However- i’m interested in it because it is about three girls in a cuddlecore band, featuring musical numbers by Cub, as well as an original theme by Lisa Marr. “Go Fish” and “My Chinchilla” are both featured. amazing! You can find the complete pilot on youtube but if you’re not interested, at least give the theme song a try, it’s great!
I have no Spotify wrapped bc I have no Spotify but my number one artist this year has CERTAINLY been Lisa Marr in all the groups she's been a part of. I spent a good chunk of this year discovering a new dimension to what music is to me and learning a lot about what I actually enjoy in and about it, and her music has been a big part of it, and if y'all can't jam to 4AM by the Lisa Marr Experiment (the album, not merely the song) we did Not have the same year.
Also shout out to Greta Morgan and all of her various projects; the more I learn about what I like, the more sharply it throws how much I love her work into relief! If y'all haven't heard it the album Summer House by Gold Motel came back up from my past and changed my life this year lol
In lieu of Spotify, development of my internet radio station continues in earnest. Check out megidont.us/back and listen with me if y'all want!
Blue skies, turning into gray since you went away nothing's the same
Time flies, and I realize what I thought was love was just a game
Passing by the places where you used to be
What I wouldn't give to have you here with me
I know I'm stupid and I know you're gone
I know a lot but I can't get over you
An all female band playing jangly form of pop punk dubbed "cuddlecore" Cub undercut the macho posturing dominating punk by being self-consciously adorable - performing in pajamas and throwing candy into the audience. The sweeter, poppier side of riot grrrl.

illustrator notes
It's nearly impossible to find photos of cub online -- people didn't carry digital cameras everywhere back then, clubs are too dark for snapshots and indie bands didn't have money for photo shoots-- so I'm guessing on their show clothes. I will apologize sincerely to Lisa Marr for dressing her in denim shorts if that never actually happened.
I based the layout, the poses and the slightly inflatable-pool-toy-looking guitars on Dan DeCarlo's cover for Betti-Cola but tried to strike a little closer to reality (denim shorts or not).
