WEEK 6: HIGHSCHOOL AU

Title: Confrontation Characters/Pairings: Ryuunosuke Akutagawa, Osamu Dazai, Ichiyo Higuchi, Chuuya Nakahara Summary: Can an outcast ever find ways to feel like he belongs? Done for #bsdwrite no 6 (High School AU). Notes: Alt. title - ‘Akutagawa gets noticed by senpai but isn’t satisfied’. Infrequent coarse language involved.

Title:  O, Sing That Song Characters/Pairing: Dazai Osamu, Nakahara Chuuya. Soukoku. Summary: Chuuya is supposed to meet with the music teacher in order to join the school’s orchestra, but it doesn’t quite go as planned. Or maybe it does. Notes: English isn’t my first language, so I apologise if there are any mistakes! (+ thanks to @weakeninghope for beta-ing this! ;w;)

Title: Viva Forever Characters/Pairing: Nakajima Atsushi, Dazai Osamu, Akutagawa Ryunosuke, Izumi Kyouka Summary: Joining the student council was Atsushi’s best worst mistake. Notes:  A bunch of interconnected drabbles, basically. Unedited.

VOCABULARY FALL LIST #6

1. abase - to lower so as to hurt feelings

Although I need money badly, I will not abase myself by working for pennies.

2. abdicate - to stop accepting a particular responsibility or obligation that you have

On her ninetieth birthday, the queen will abdicate her throne and let her oldest son become king.

3. abomination - a thing that causes disgust or hatred

That sounds like an abomination of justice to me.

4. brusque - marked by rude or peremptory shortness

When we met in person, she came across as rather brusque.

5. saboteur - someone who commits sabotage or deliberately causes wrecks

He who is loyal is by definition not a spy or a saboteur.

6. debauchery - extreme indulgence in sensual behaviors, such as careless drinking and promiscuity

He spent every last penny of his fortune on gambling and debauchery.

7. proliferate - cause to grow or increase rapidly; grow rapidly

As cell phones become more and more multi-functional, their use continues to proliferate.

8. anachronism - an artifact that belongs to another time; a thing belonging or appropriate to a period other than that in which it exists, especially a thing that is conspicuously old-fashioned

Soon physical books will be completely replaced by e-books and will represent nothing more than an anachronism.

9. nomenclature - a system of words used to name things in a particular discipline

The nomenclature, though, has little to do with the reptile itself.

10. expurgate - to edit out rude, incorrect, offensive, useless, or otherwise undesirable information; to purge

The rapper was told that if he did not expurgate the offensive lyrics from his new song, it wouldn't be played on the radio.

11. bellicose - demonstrating aggression and willingness to fight; eager for war

His bellicose behavior at the party ensured that he would not be invited again.

12. gauche - lacking class or manners; awkward; tactless

His gauche table manners make me cringe, especially when he tries to talk with his mouth full.

13. rapacious - aggressively greedy or grasping

Because of its rapacious appetite, the shark is often considered to be more of an eating machine than a living creature.

14. paradox - (logic) a statement that contradicts itself

The idea of being cruel to be kind is a paradox because cruelty is not normally associated with kindness.

15. conundrum - a difficult problem that seems to have no solution

Trying to solve this conundrum is really making my head hurt.

16. anomaly - something unusual or unexpected

It was quite an anomaly when the temperature reached 101 degrees in December in Michigan.

17. ephemeral - lasting a very short time

The thunderstorm was ephemeral, starting suddenly and gone within seconds.

18. rancorous - a feeling of hate or anger

Many people became rancorous because of the man's ignorant speech.

19. churlish - having a bad disposition; surly; rude and boorish

I admit that I wake up churlish every morning, but my mood improves drastically after I have my cup of coffee.

20. precipitous - dangerously high or steep

Freshwater fish populations are in precipitous decline.
