How do you get the VODS in the first place? Don't they get deleted after a certain amount of time?

They do, but Phil monthly chooses to save the VODs in the highlights on Twitch in order to archive them instead of just letting them get automatically deleted from past broadcasts. You can see them on his channel yourself at https://www.twitch.tv/philza/videos?filter=highlights

We've simply gone through each to date, link, and categorize them for easier access of his VODs. That way watching those still brings support to Philza!

Not to mention the list also puts past broadcasts and highlights together in one place rather than switching between those on his channel, getting confused by the double VODs, and how past broadcasts don’t have the dates in their titles

If someone were to go to the trouble of screenrecording some alt vods, would it be something you would be comfortable having a part in hosting? I would understand if not since they are deleted intentionally. I also don't think I have full vods (at least not many) due to my schedule, but parts of the ones I've managed to catch :)

Short answer:

No, we would not use or help with anything involving recordings of alt streams because of how this list is set up and the core values of this project :)

Long answer:

The biggest rule of the Philza VOD List is whatever is on the list is entirely based on what is on “Philza’s” Twitch channel. Alt streams are not on “Philza’s” Twitch channel, so, even if they were saved, then they would be on a separate list.

We believe that Philza’s streams and what’s available from them should be left for him to decide on. Therefore, we also recommend against spreading deleted streams from any channel to avoid potential issues.

Alt streams are made to be temporary. If you get too stuck on what you’re missing it’s harder to enjoy what you have :)
