I was curious if you had any headcanons for that, pets with ghost roach? My apologies, that drawibg had me curious, if you don’t do asks for headcanons don’t worry about responding!

If you do, do you think Gary and Simon are dog or cat people respectively? If they both were to get a pet what breeds do you think they’d be interested in?

I actually had a headcanon that Gary's family had a dog. A big girl Saint Bernard named Aurora, who his parents got before Roach was born, and who he grew up with. After he left to join the army, his mother got even more Saint Bernards :D

So yes.... I headcanon Gary as having grown up surrounded by dogs and becoming a true dog person himself. I think if he had the chance to get a dog, he would probably get.... a Saint Bernard??? Although, considering that he lives in an apartment, he might also consider getting a dachshund. (I also GENUINELY believe that Gary “Roach” Sanderson is just a humanized dachshund.)

As for Simon.... I do not think he ever had a pet. After moving out of his parents' house and getting a job as a butcher, he might have fed scraps to stray dogs or homeless cats on the streets. I also feel like Simon never really wanted a pet of his own. Especially after Roba, or after that fateful Christmas. But if I had to choose, I think he would be more of a.... cat person??? He would probably be more comfortable living with a cat than a dog. He does not like having to give much attention even to himself, and constantly walking, feeding, and training a dog?.. It would be too... much for him. A cat, on the other hand, could come sit in his lap once in the evening and then leave him alone until the next day. As for the breed, I do not think Simon would care at all. If he decided to get a cat, he would probably just take the first stray he came across and call it a day. But now that I think about it, I feel like a British Shorthair would suit him. (Yes, damn it, I am absolutely convinced they would get along.)

And yes…. if we allow ourselves to dream a little and go to that distant, happy scenario where Gary and Simon told the government and the army to fuck off, moved to the middle of nowhere in Ireland, and bought a little house with a garden and a pond….. Yeah, screw it, they would probably get dogs. Maybe a shepherd? Although, knowing how easily they understand each other… one holiday, Gary would come home carrying a tiny kitten with huge round eyes, while Simon would pull a little dachshund puppy out from behind his back.
