Movie Review | Litan (Mocky, 1982)
What if a Jean Rollin movie played like you hit the fast forward button on your remote, the frantic pace occasionally interrupted by some abrupt, borderline comical kills?
And instead of Brigitte Lahaie in a see through robe, our protagonists were a fully clothed middle aged couple who bring some semblance of normal human behaviour?
And instead of the Castel sisters, the rustic French town in which this was set was populated with a bunch of oddballs in even odder looking masks, including some which look like a French knockoff of the Blue Man Group, because it was Litan Day, you know, the totally real holiday that wasn’t just made up for this movie?
And there was enough fog to earn you a few stamps on your Foggy Movie Card and bring you just a little closer to that fabled submarine sandwich?
While this is narratively busier than I’m used to with my dreamscapes, I had fun riding this movie’s weirdo wavelength, but if I got hit with a pop quiz on the plot afterwards, I’d be guaranteed to flunk it.
