Steam Summer Sale starts today, and I wanted to share six indie games that are both visually interesting, fun, easy to complete, and under $10! Prices listed are their usual price, no idea what any sale prices would be.
Great North Shelter 2 - $2.99
First off, there is no Great North Shelter 1, this is a walking simulator with mild horror elements (mostly early on in the game and nothing incredibly scary, its all tongue in cheek) and major comedic elements. It's got a great sense of humor and a lot of really interesting set-pieces to explore.
Aquarium at August 32nd - $3.99
This is a 'spot the anomaly' game, in the style of Exit 8, but this one has a much calmer, more relaxing vibe to it. Though there are some scary elements it never gets to the level of most games in the subgenre, most of the anomaly's are more comedic in nature, and it has some interesting additions like an infinite mode and a hidden room to relax in that you can unlock.
A bit of a mild puzzle game (nothing you'd likely need a walkthrough for!) with some slight platforming elements, this is a comedic game about navigating the beuracracy of hell. It has a unique cutout-esque art style, a good sense of humor, and even some fun challenges.
The Lotus Holidays - $9.99
A visually trippy and stunning game (wtih an incredible soundtrack!), this game has a fascinating story with a really fun mystery to untangle, multiple endings, and a lot of fun little secrets hidden throughout. I'm a huge fan of this developer and highly recommend their other games as well: Mango, Glitch Daddy, and The Liquid Jet, but this one is a great one to start with.
The Norwood Suite - $9.99
Explore a surreal hotel, interact with the guests and do some fetch quests for them, all with a killer soundrack playing. The whole game has a focus on music, and there's just so much to see in the hotel that I'm still not certain I didn't miss some things. Just don't expect all your questions to get concrete answers.
Hypnagogia 無限の夢 Boundless Dreams - $9.99
Much more of a platformer than the other games, highly similar to old collectathon games in some ways, this game has you exploring various dream worlds, some are funny, some are tragic, and some are pretty darn scary, but it's an absolute blast to play. There's also a free prequel, just called Hypnagogia, if you wanna check it out too.
