Young people are constantly bombarded with advertisements, social media post, movies, billboards, and they need the media literacy skills to help understand the messages that these types of media are sending. Once they are able to look at media this way it can lead to improvements in critical thinking skills, and overall improvement in literacy.

While this is true, such initiatives such as the national association for media literacy to provide educators with resources as well as training to improve the level of media literacy of the students. At a collegiate level, universities such as Temple University and the University of Rhode Island are working with K12 teachers to develop curriculum as well as conduct the research to uncover the value of media literacy on a students’ success.
