I might post this to my actual Harry Potter blog @brandedhufflepuff but I thought I would post it here too.
I’m very passionate about the Harry Potter series (and the additions that accompany the series) and there’s no doubt that I will defend my favourite characters and my own house to the death. Now I have a “friend” who was making snarky and very rude remarks about Hufflepuff and the characters from that house. I myself am a Hufflepuff and pride myself on that, rightfully so. So to hear somebody insulting it right to my face was pretty much like being slapped. She was saying how “Cedric Diggory must be the only character you’re holding onto, considering he’s the only notable character from that house.” Then continued on to make a statement about how it was probably just Robert Pattinson that I liked. Although I have seen the movies, the books is what I was basing my knowledge and facts off of, however she seemed to think this wasn’t the case. I informed her that her favourite character, Nymphadora Tonks, was a Hufflepuff and she is easily one of the most badass women from the books. However she still insisted that Cedric was the only character who did anything and now he’s dead.
May I remind you all that the most precious angel, Newt Scamander is a Hufflepuff. My gosh is he the most amazing person and diverse character whom I love with all of my heart. Yet she still didn’t seem to think that any of these people were worth noting.
I am a proud Hufflepuff and I don’t think twice about telling people that. I don’t see it as something to be ashamed of. Though most people refer to it as “the house for the people with nothing to show” or “the others” i see Hufflepuff as a safe haven for anyone and everyone who’s ever doubted their self worth, for everybody who has the traits to be sorted elsewhere, yet values loyalty and trust more than any of their other assets.
Hufflepuff to me, is a home and is something wonderful.
