Made pepperoni rigatoni today. Actually turned out pretty good.

Sliiiiiiightly overcooked the noodles but overall a decent change from the usual.

Me, foolishly thinking I could have one normal conversation with my grandmother: Yeah I just don't really have the patience to sit and watch tv anymore.

Her, being herself: Yeah television is just so full of QUEERS and LESBIANS and VULGARITY these days, I can't stand it!

Me: I was actually talking about my attention span. But since you mentioned it, where are you seeing all this? Like, what channel exactly has all that? Asking for friend.

Have learned more about lumber this morning than I ever figured I would.

Treated wood is heavy af, sticky wet, smelly & leaves a funky green sheen on your hands. Plywood sheets cost a fuckton more than I thought and 2x4s cost way less. And no, it is not normal to nail carpet to the floor, you're supposed to use tacking strips. My grandpa just makes questionable construction decisions. Which is why we're having to replace an entire wall and chunk of floor that's basically being held together by mold, rot and cobwebs. It is nasty.

The combo of talking about Fire Emblem in an rb and that post about adding characters to the Permanent Collection of your brain was some sort of serendipity this morning. Got me thinking about the OG Permanent Collection Character that started me down the fanfic brainworm rabbithole. This dude:

Libra, from Fire Emblem: Awakening. Middle school, age 13, first time I ever dove onto FFN. The absolutely bonkers number of times I reread the same 5 fics in his tag. The first fic I ever actually wrote (which unfortunately never saw the light of day and was deleted in one of my manic teenage everything-i-make-is-trash purges). Absolutely besotted with this traumatized war priest terrified of physical touch who spent his downtime making toys for orphans and painting masterpieces in his tent. While constantly being mistaken for a woman at every turn. I loved him so much one of my longtime besties @kirinfishace made me this valentine card that I still keep on my bookshelf over a decade later, along with letters and origami paper gift boxes from other friends (ILU babe. Mwah!)

Anyway. To characters in the Permanent Collection, and the people that help put them there🥂

I think I'm just going to have to start investigating or straight up ignoring any new 'information' my mother tries to sell me on cuz she's falling for facebook AI bullshit left and right. Showed me this 'super cool singer with a neat voice, even if the lyrics are a little odd' and the guy is completely fake, the voice has that obviously robot crackle and his neck tats are different in each video and his throat flickers unnaturally when he speaks/sings. And the 'odd' lyrics are because it's AI slop and sometimes not even real words. She shows me 'cool art' that I immediately clock as AI trash and she's just like 'well it still looks cool' like no it doesn't. It looks like soulless slop that has twelve fingers and birds in weird places.

And then she recently found this 'veterinarian' with '30+ years experience' advocating raw eggs for cats with digestive issues and insisted that my 17yo baby with IBD have some with breakfast yesterday and she ended up puking all fucking day. (She's fine this morning, ate her PRESCRIPTION crunchies and a tuna puree snack) I don't think this 'vet' is real, or if he is he is somehow going against all other vet advice I found online that says don't feed raw eggs bc of possible salmonella (boiled or cooked unseasoned seem ok though?). Wish I'd done that yesterday before she made my babygirl get the pukes, but I'm definitely not taking advice from her without research anymore. Wtf.

I've had a bit over 24 hours to come to terms and calm down about it now (which is. Much preferable to the massive panic of yesterday noon.) but google fucking ate and yeeted an entire draft of chapter 10 of my zevwarden longfic and I'm still upset. Resigned to not getting it back, grateful I had an older backup with half the chapter elsewhere, incredibly annoyed at having to rewrite the second half. I've been moving my drafts to ellipsus bc fuck google but a whole ass draft vanishing into the aether wasn't even something I was aware could happen. So extra fuck google.

Found a cute lil guy this morning~

I love cicadas. I know lots of people think they're noisy and annoying, but I like listening to them, especially when the river is high and the running water mixes with their humming song. Soothing woodland white noise.

Also their sticky lil feet tickle when they walk on you and it's fun. And you can hook their shed larval shells into your shirt fabric and make a bug necklace to freak out your little sibling!
