So sorry if I'm being annoying by asking this, but what if the AU was the other way around and Lucelion died? Would Bree even stay with the family (even if somebody tried to hold her back) or run off to more adventures with or without the child? She is kind of fickle and I could imagine the "climate" at Lucelion's strict -proper-and-perfect family isn't really her thing. You said her behaviour as a mother differs depending on who the father is, how would it change when there isn't one anymore?
You’re not being annoying at all! I love when people play around with any given situation–just as you have done here by switching the roles. This is a really great question!
Your question–what Brii would do in the event of Lucelion’s death within the context of this AU–is a rather hard topic to brook because the answer isn’t pretty.
Whether she is Brii in Skyrim or Bree in Thedas, this character has never particularly wished to be a mother. In the event of Lucelion’s death, Lucelion’s father (Nocteriil) would take custody of the children and Brii would be free to live her life of adventure. If Lucelion’s father was no longer living, Brii’s father or one of her brothers would take custody of the children. In either scenario, Brii would leave her children just as her mother left her. And she would do it–as her mother did–believing that that decision was for the best.
In both TES and in DA, there is an element of selfishness masquerading as selflessness both in the character of Brii/Bree’s mother and in Brii/Bree herself. In DA, Bree’s mother enters into a sexual relationship with an elf only to quit her lover ostensibly for the sake of the child… a child who is then brought up in isolation away from society because of her illegitimacy and her elf-blooded parentage. Was that decision made solely based on the welfare of the child? Or was there something in the mother–noblewoman that she was–that could not begin to fathom suddenly living hand-to-mouth, in the wilderness, ostracised and exiled from the world she knew? In TES, Brii’s mother likewise quits her elven partner. She was looking for a way up the socio-economic ladder and she found one such way in the form of Nocteriil. Before she left, she (in her eyes, anyway) granted to her child a life of wealth and comforts that she, in due time, was sure to embrace herself. And if she had not agreed to leave her husband in exchange for the marriages of her children, no such deal would have been struck and her dear little children would be left half-sunk in the social mire that makes up the backwater province of Skyrim.
That Brii/Bree echoes her mother in this regard is clear by her actions. After DAO, Bree abandons whatever duties and responsibilities she might have had as one of the last Wardens in Ferelden and goes AWOL. In TES, after deciding that Lucelion just won’t suit, she abandons her home and makes off with a Nord. “Running away from X problem to pursue her own interests while quietly making some off-hand comment about how ‘it’s really all for the best, really‘” is in some sense Brii/Bree’s calling card.
The reason she stays in the AUs where she becomes a mother is because she has the emotional support and the physical presence of the father as an anchor. Brii is an extrovert at heart–she needs people to help her talk and work through her problems. Taking away those people or, in those scenarios where there are people around her, making her feel isolated triggers that flight knee-jerk reaction.
So, with that in mind and to recap, in this AU Brii becomes the wife of Lucelion, she moves with him to his ancestral home in the Summerset Isles, and she bears his children. Take Lucelion out of that picture and you’ve removed her anchor. Brii does not see the Summerset Isles as her home, she does not see high Altmer society as her natural environs, and she certainly does not regard the likes of Nocteriil as her emotional support. Add onto that the anxiety of raising children (e.g., Lucelion always managed the logistics and financing of child-rearing and without him, Brii feels particularly incompetent) and severe feelings of isolation (in particular, feeling out of her element) and you’ve triggered Brii’s flight response.
We see many questions about differences between Yvad and Osiris or questions that they give very different answers to. What do they have in common? :) (Also that new story!! I'm happy there was a continuation and things went well, but I don't know if I can trust the peace yet haha :) )
Hmm.. They’re not exactly opposites, but for some reason, i can’t think of too many similarities.. There should perhaps be more similarities than thses.. i just can’t think of them at the moment..
They’re both very loyal once they put their trust in someone.. My boys won’t betray them, even though other people (or society) turn their backs on them.
They both care a lot about how they look to others. It’s pretty obvious with Yvad. But for Osiris, it may seem he doesn’t care too much about how he looks, but he does care (in fact more so than Yvad even) and he tries pretty hard to project a certain image to others..
Both support mage rights. (sided with mages)
Haha and if you can’t trust the peace, then you know me well.. hahhaha but seriously, it’s pretty much a happy ending for this story.. :P
Fröhlichen Geburtstag zu dich, fröhlichen Geburtstag zu dich.. to the birthday much happiness, to the birthday much happiness... Und so weiter. All the good to your birthday, behalte die gute Arbeit auf!
Your answer to Osiris' question made me curious. Now I want to know, what was Yvad's most embarrassing moment? :D
He has had MANY embarrassing moments.. he just does things without thinking of consequences, just because it seemed like a good idea at the time..
Probably the time he ran out of the tent naked (because of a spider) and made Cassandra laugh (there’s a drabble)
Or very disappointing the first time he had sex?
or when he went in for skinny dipping in Hinterlands and Sera hid his clothes?
or falling asleep during the meeting with Orlaisian nobles (after having had too much to drink) and shouting out something obscene when Dorian tried to wake him.
If Osiris has Harry the kitten and Yvad probably has an army of (unnamed?) nugs, what is Taash's animal?
A mabari!!!! She loves dogs.. she’s such a dog person... Her mabari would be like the biggest and meanest looking dog.. but she’d actually be such a sweet and gentle creature, and Taash would name her something like Daisy. :)
What makes Osiris and Yvad nervous/anxious? How do they show/deal with this nervosity/anxiety?
Osiris gets anxious when he’s in an unfamiliar, crowded place with lot of humans.. like the winter palace! (That was the single most nervous experience he’s ever had in his life.) He tried to make himself busy with the tasks at hand, but towards the end of it (after everything is done) he got worse.. so he ended up hiding somewhere until it is all over.
Yvad is opposite. He gets very nerveous/anxious when he is left on his own (specially with a problem at hand) like right after meeting Corypheus for the first time.. injured and walking in the snow on his own. His heart was full of fear and anxiety. He thought he’d die alone in the snow. He talks to himself to try to cope with it.. urged himself to keep walking. (would have looked like a mad man..)
Yvad x Jim! :D Imagine if the random man "Philip" that the Orlesians ship the Inquisitor with had been Jim instead. :D It would be funny to see some Orlesian-style Inquisitor fanfiction. :D
I don’t know how much I can do with Yvad x Jim? lmao.. i just wrote something silly anyway.. :P I apologise for my bad writing.. it seems that I deliberately wrote the first bit like a bad romance novel, and just carried on from there.. lmao
“ ‘Phillip stood trembling as the inquisitor’s strong hands pulled him closer. He could feel the Herald’s manhood, rigid underneath his trousers, ready for him to reach in and…pppttt’ Oh, really? What is this crap?” Yvad put the book down, one eyebrow raised in question.
Dorian picked up the book and flicked through its content, his eyes sparkling in amusement. “There seem to be some.. very interesting descriptions about your.. manhood.”
“I want to know who this Philip is! Philip with the sun-kissed skin, ‘moist’ red lips and… rippling abs, apparently?”
“Well, it says here, he is a ‘mysterious agent’. Maybe he works for Leliana.” Dorian suggested.
“It hardly matters. Probably just a made up character anyway.” said Yvad.
Jim heard all of this in the shadows behind the bookshelves, his face buried in his hands. He shouldn’t have left the book in the library last night. Circulating his work around the Orlaisian nobility was one thing, but the inquisitor actually finding out about this? Perhaps he should just focus on his other novel from now on instead, the one about the commander he named “The Lion’s Destiny”.
Haha, Yvad's candy stash! :D I'll be sure to take good care of it! It will not go to waste. And I've got a question for him and Osiris: If they got a Mabari companion (before or after Trespasser), what would they name the Dog?
Good question!!! :)
Yvad would name his dog “Lord Woofus”, AND DON’T YOU TOUCH MY CANDY STASH!!!!
Osiris would name his dog “Dog” or “Hey”- don’t ask him to name things.. he’s terrible.
