No one could ever claim Steve and Eddie didn't love their dog. Some might say their love is a bit too much at times when one or the other doesn't want to have to part with Bilbo.
Even in situations a dog definitely shouldn't be there.
"We'll just shut the door," Steve says, kissing a trail up his soon-to-be husband's neck.
"But what if he gets lonely? Maybe we should wait until he’s asleep," Eddie replies with a pout as he looks over his shoulder at the little black tuff of fur sitting happily. "Who's a good boy? Bilbo Baggins of Hellfire, that's who!"
The dog jumps around their feet, Steve all but forgotten as Eddie bends down to scratch behind Bilbo's ears.
"What about...?" Steve asks, one hand on Eddie's hip and the other slowly moving up and down his back.
Eddie quirks an eyebrow. "Want me to say you're a good boy too?"
Steve rolls his eyes and runs his fingers through his hair. "No. But I would like to continue where we were going." He hooks his fingers in the waistband of Eddie's ripped, faded jeans and pulls him closer with a smirk. Eddie smiles widely, mischief in his eyes, as he leans forward to press a firm, chaste kiss on Steve's lips.
"Let's go, big boy."
Bilbo does a single bark and twirls around in a circle, waiting for the attention he obviously feels is deserved for being so cute (he's not wrong.)
"I'll give Bill his dinner, that should distract him long enough," Steve says. He goes to the kitchen and starts getting out the fancy food they have to keep in the fridge for their dog.
Eddie walks over to Steve and wraps his arms around his waist. "It takes him, like, ten minutes to eat."
"And?"
"And... I'll meet you in the bedroom."
Steve lowers the food and watches as Bilbo bounces over to it, immediately going to town eating. He backs away slowly, eyes never leaving the dog just in case he decides to follow. Steve's back hits the door, he slowly and noiselessly enters the room, shutting the door just as carefully behind him.
When he turns around, Eddie is sprawled out on the bed in a cheesy pose you'd see on the cover of romance novels, fake red rose between his teeth. Steve has to cover his mouth to hold back the laugh. Eddie wiggles his eyebrows in response.
"You're such a dork," Steve says affectionately as he lowers himself over Eddie, arms on either side of his face and caging him in.
"Yeah, but I'm your dork." Eddie smiles widely, dimples on full display. Steve can't help but lean down to kiss them. Eddie's hands reach up to cup Steve's cheeks and bring their lips together. He pulls back only a fraction to say, "Where were we?"
A sound is heard from the end of the bed.
A very familiar sound.
Steve and Eddie share a look and slowly move to look over the baseboard. Standing there, tail wagging in joyful abandon, is Bilbo.
"How did he get in here? The door's still closed."
"Hi, buddy! Did you miss me?"
Steve flops back on the bed with a sigh, but he can’t stay annoyed for long when Bilbo jumps up to lick his face and Eddie cuddles up beside him.
