So wait, is RDJ problematic or just Iron Man?
Well let’s see. Off the top of my head, RDJ did this example of yellow face in one of the Sherlock Holmes movies and that’s gross as fuck, He defended Mel Gibson after a whole bunch of racist, homophobic, antisemitic statements. He’s done other things too over the years but that’s the stuff that came to mind to me. I know there’s more out there but frankly… if this isn’t enough?
As for Tony Stark, there’s the rape jokes which I don’t think RDJ objected to (at least not enough to keep them out of the movies). And my problems with the character are very well documented so… I’m not going to go into all that.
My problems with Tony Stark being in the new Spider-Man movie? It’s unnecessary and a little creepy. The thing about Peter Parker and Spider-Man is that story is about figuring out how to do this shit on your own. And he does. The other issue is… Tony Stark is forcing himself and his help on a teenager which is UBER creepy to me. Tony manipulated Peter in CW in both the comics and the movie but with Peter as a teenager it’s just extra fucked up.
Tony Stark holds an amazing amount of power that Peter Parker doesn’t and over and over again he uses that power against Peter and to manipulate Peter. I don’t need more of that shit in my life.
EDIT: I’m removing Tropic Thunder as I’ve been informed his character is called on the racist blackface stunt.
Can you do a neutral good gay one?
hmmm i don’t think so b/c as a general rule i don’t like thinking too seriously about alignments in terms of types of gay ppl etc (esp. not in terms of ‘good’ and ‘evil’), those just stuck out to me as really fun and innocent things we do that seemed to fit w/ “chaotic gay” as a made up ~alignment~, but in the same vein, if i think of smth that seemingly really fits then sure!
