[Run! (for the drabble post you reblogged)]
Isaac ran through the woods, his eyes focused on the way ahead though his ears focused on the sounds behind him, the unmistakable sounds of a two legged creature crashing about after him. The panther smiled, picking up speed, his tail trailing back behind him. Did she really think she could catch him? He would have laughed, but instead a half purred growl came from his throat. Close enough. Four legs were better than two by far, and he knew that he was a far stronger runner even when he was only on two. Of course, he was taller than her anyway. However, as he ran he noticed that he no longer heard his friend running behind him, her pursuit apparently given up.
What good was a game of tag if the ‘it’ didn’t want to chase after you?
“Nessie?” he thought as he stopped dead in his tracks and turned to where he had last heard her, taking a few tentative steps forward. Had he any voice beyond a growl he would have called out to her. Still, Isaac did not see her though he could smell her. Was she…above him? “Wait…” no sooner had he had that thought did he hear some rustling in the trees overhead.
“Gotcha!” Down from the tree jumped the girl onto the big, black, beast she landed resulting in a jumbled pile of limbs and fur. “You’re getting slow, Isaac,” she teased as she shifted to sit on his back now that he was lying on the ground. Isaac offered a growl that could only mean “not funny”, but he did nothing to throw her off. “Don’t be a grump,” the virtue said, scratching the beast behind the ears, feeling the panther’s posture relax under her hand. “Now, it’s my turn.”
Before he could even flick his tail in response the girl was off, crashing off through the trees. Isaac picked up his head, thinking for half a moment to just not go after her, but no, that would be mean. The head start was over, and the panther got to his feet before running toward his friend’s footfalls. He never had been able to say no to a good game of tag.
