Biden Displays A Lil' Obama Magic In Tulsa
So I watched Joe Biden's Press Conference in Tulsa, & i'm less than impressed. Greenwood/ Black Wall St. is a Big Deal 2 Blackfolk. It was a somber setting, but He starts by walking offstage 2 ask 2 little [White] girls if they had ice cream(???). I felt like they were more important 2 Biden, than The Event being observed. This was not a time 2 lighten The Mood. As usual, Biden said a lot of the right things. His historical account was sound & meaningful, but as usual, he shifted from a specific Black narrative, 2 a POC & Immigrant narrative. Why can't Black America/ ADOS have 'Their Day'? Black Germans & Catholics were also murdered during 'The Holocaust', but The Narrative is about European Jews.
Biden tries 2 equate 244Yrs of White Supremacist Oppression & Terrorism against Black America/ ADOS w/ the struggle of immigrants adapting 2 a new Life in a new place. He goes on 2 imply that the return of The Ku Klux Klan was the result of perceived competition from Post WW 1 European Immigrants, & NOT the direct result of D.W. Griffith's "Birth Of A Nation", where The Klan is featured prominently. He expresses disgust @ a Klan March down Pennsylvania Ave., & the # of Senators & Congressmen that were members & affiliates; but is again silent about his association w/ known segregationists James Eastland, Strum Thurman, & Jesse Helms.
Biden rightly denounced The Tulsa Massacre, & lamented the actions taken 2 ensure that Greenwood never rises again (like Carthage), but stopped short of saying that Reparations R in order. Instead, he proposed Class Based Programs & enhanced Small Business opportunities 4 'Minorities'. Biden then spoke about Millennials- singling them out as the 'most tolerant' among Us. He uses the Social Construct of Media Advertising, & the (unrealistic) # of interracial couples featured 2 prove his point. I wonder, how will miscegenation restore the Generational Wealth of Black America/ ADOS?
MLK famously said that 'It doesn't cost America anything 2 end Segregation'. The real work of 'making amends' will B a costly endeavor. The Media attention that Black Wall Street has received, is long overdue. This page of American History should have been taught in classrooms decades ago. Hundreds of bodies laying in unmarked graves need 2 B identified, & given proper funerals. All Things being said, what is needed, is meaningful Policy. Talking Points, w/o Programs specifically designed 2 indemnify the descendants of Greenwood & the dozens of Black Towns similarly destroyed, R nothing more than a grand gesture of lip service.
-This would B a good time 4 The Congressional Black Caucus 2 'Step Up'
