Plastic Free July

Day 18

Unfortunately, although many of my friends know about Plastic Free July, most people don’t so it is really important to stay alert when trying to stay plastic free. I called in at our local bakers today for a bread roll.  I asked for a roll but my attention was taken by someone else in the shop.  I wasn’t looking at the girl behind the counter and when I turned to pay for my roll, she had put it in a plastic bag and tied a knot at the end.  ‘But you have paper bags,’ I said ‘I wanted a paper  bag’.  The girl smiled, ‘oh well, never mind, I’m too quick for you’ she said.    

She wasn’t aware of the problems with plastic and just thought I was a crazy old lady.  Oh well.  

Here’s a photo I took a year or so ago of a billabong near Little Desert, north-west Victoria.  I’ve included it to remind me that there are still a few places where the waterways are plastic free and the reflectiions perfect!
