What could she say? Dina looked down at Lee, looking up at her with rapidly dimming, expectant eyes. She knew that she had to say something, he needed her to say something. Lee’d been so worried that Bellatrix would be his undoing, that the possibility of one of their own doing him harm had never occurred to him–had never occurred to any of them. It wasn’t as if Aemelia had meant to do him any harm, but everyone knew that a werewolf couldn’t control their change, and Lee was the only one stupid enough to try and help calm her.
And now he was lying here, in her arms, and Aemelia was Merlin knows where. Dina reached down, and her fingers brushed over her boyfriends clammy skin gently, before she leaned down and pressed her lips to his forehead. They’d already tried the spells, she’d already had the freak out, but they both knew that this was the end, and at least she was here with him.
“You know, even as a kid, I always thought we’d end up getting married.” Truthfully, she knew that now wasn’t the time, but she also knew that she’d never have another chance, and she didn’t want him to die, ever wondering. “And I know, that if any point after the Yule Ball, if you’d asked me…I would have said yes. Even when we weren’t together, I’ve always loved you.” She wasn’t sure at what point after that he’d slipped away, because she never could force herself to look him in the eyes.
She sat there afterward, all night, until a bloodied-and-horrified-looking-werewolf-Longbottom showed up to drag her away from him.
“Say hi to my dad for me. He’s going to love you.”
Memes: What would you say to my muse as they lay dying in your arms.
