after a lot of research and consideration, inward-looking and really realizing what i value the most, i don't think california is my ideal place to live.
while i entirely appreciate the coastal bioregion, and still have a deep longing to protect it, with global warming in consideration, the extreme heat spikes and water shortages, the lack of precipitation and snowfall that leads to decreased snowmelt and higher chances of wildfire (not to mention the compacted topsoil from years and years of monocultural farming in central valley and throughout california as a whole), i don't believe that being another person using those precious resources is a good idea.
i will continue to support non profits in the area working to protect wildlife and restore those precious and irreplaceable, invaluable ecologies. i will continue to support shark education, seal rehabilitation, and sustainable fisheries (and if you're looking for good resources for nonprofits, i'm happy to provide you with some!) i just do not think that migrating california is a financially or environmentally wise or responsible decision for me at this point in time (or going forward).
if something miraculous were to happen and things changed, i would consider it once again. but for now, i will be amending where i hope to move within the next 5-10 years.
