Parallels are strong here.
The relationship between Song Lan and Xiao Xingchen reminds me strongly of Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian. Not just their history of traveling together, but just how emotional Song Lan was over the hope of finding Xiao Xingchen, and how betrayed at hearing Xiao Xingchen playing and laughing with a villain...
But! Also. Xiao Xingchen giving Song Lan his eyes - (are we gonna find out more about that? seems like we should) - reminds me, of course, of Wei Wuxian transferring his golden core to Jiang Cheng. So there’s multiple resonances here with the main characters/story, as well as a strong Tragic Ending there for a mostly one-ep story.
also also, this has no relation to anything, and I know he’s evil and must die etc., but Xue Yang is stupid hot.
