It’s a hard topic to talk about but I thought I’d share some thoughts and conversations I’ve been having with close friends about the passing of loved ones to shed a little light on the situation since it’s been on a lot of people’s mind since our beloved basketball icon, Kobe Bryant & his daughter Gigi passed away this past weekend tragically. You see I started out this year with also losing an uncle, a grandma, and an aunt — it’s always hard to imagine life without these people and the feeling is surreal because you can still see their smiles and the memories you’ve made when you close your eyes. Once they’re gone, we always feel like they were taken too soon but the truth is... no one really knows when their time is coming. I’ve been around enough deaths of close family and friends in the last handful of years that I can share honestly that some of the things the people left behind regret the most are: not having spent more time with that person, taking more pictures with them so they can look back on these memories, sharing their true feelings with them, forgiving and forgetting the little things so they can share what little time they had left together, and doing the things they’ve always wanted to do together sooner. Thought: what if you lived life like you were dying or like the people you love were dying? There would be no regrets about lost time and everything you choose to do for yourself and your loved ones will be more intentional. EagleThought - Live Life Intentionally Most people think that we live life randomly or that things happen to us randomly: out of our control. While I do accept that there are many forces going on that are out of our control I also believe that we can control more outcomes with our choices and our decisions than we give ourselves credit. For instances my students know that if they study hard, practice their problems and not wait until the last minute to prepare for an exam they control the outcomes and are more likely to get the desired grade. I have made this conscious adjustment in my personal life health challenge. I know that if I want to change the structure and size of my body I have to make healthy choices and intentionally get out and out in the work. There is no magic pill or drug that will give me the long term results that I want better than pure exercise. We did just that today. We got in 15.03 miles of walking in: over 28,900 steps. “My future self is really going to be proud of the radical, intentional efforts of my present self!” What are areas that you can be more intentional in effort?
