Thiago is a wanted man (Picture: Getty)Arsenal have reportedly enquired about the availability of Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara, with Liverpool facing competition over his signature. The Spain international, who will be involved in Sunday night’s Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain, looked set for a move to Anfield this summer but a deal has yet to be completed. He has one year left on his contract with the German giants, who are keen to sell him this summer rather than lose him on a free transfer at the end of next season. Bayern are demanding £23million for the 29-year-old, which Liverpool deem excessive seeing as they could approach him in January to discuss a Bosman. With Liverpool stalling over a deal, Arsenal have made an approach as Mikel Arteta looks to add to his squad, according to the Daily Mail. They also want his price to be reduced. Arteta is interested in Thiago (Picture: Arsenal FC via Getty)The Gunners will look to offload the likes of Lucas Torreira and Mohamed Elneny in order to help fund the move. Per Mertesacker, the head of Arsenal’s academy, warned Thiago he would have to adapt if he moved to Anfield. ‘I can already imagine the transfer, but the midfield axis of Liverpool is set up, Mertesacker told Goal and SPOX. ‘Getting in there is very ambitious, but he’s a top footballer who can play anywhere. Thiago is set to sign for Liverpool (Picture: ANP Sport via Getty)Jose Enrique has questioned Liverpool’s move for Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara, admitting he’s not sure his countryman would be the ‘best fit’ for Jurgen Klopp’s side. While Enrique, who spent five years at Anfield, thinks the Spain international, 29, is an ‘unbelievable player’, he cast doubt over his age and his lack of experience in the Premier League. Thiago has won the Champions League, two Club World Cups, seven Bundesliga and two La Liga titles during spells at Bayern Munich and Barcelona – winning virtually every honour available to him at club level. And although Enrique thinks he would be a ‘very, very good player’ if he does seal a move to Anfield, he is not convinced they would get much longevity out of the midfielder. ‘If they get him definitely he’s going there because Klopp has called him and told him he’s going to be a starting player often,’ Enrique told Stadium Astro. ‘He’s 29 already. The Premier League is not the same, he’s never played there. Would Thiago Alcantara make the Starting XI for Liverpool next season? — Stadium Astro (@stadiumastro) July 6, 2020‘I believe he will be a very, very good player for us but how much do you want to spend on this player and for how many years is he going to perform in your team? That’s what you have to look at as well. ‘I’m not sure it would be the best fit. ‘But he’s an unbelievable player, there’s no doubt about that. Just because I never answer these kind of questions,’ Klopp said on Sunday. ‘Thiago Alcantara is a really good player. Like a lot of other players out there, I like (him) a lot. Jurgen Klopp believes Jadon Sancho is unlikely to join Liverpool this summer (Bild/Getty)Jurgen Klopp says a red shirt would look ‘very good’ on Jadon Sancho but admits he does not see the Borussia Dortmund winger signing for Liverpool this summer. Manchester United have made Sancho one of their priority targets for the summer transfer window but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side also face competition from Chelsea and the newly crowned Premier League champions. Dortmund are understood to be open to selling Sancho this summer but the Bundesliga club are demanding in excess of £100 million for the England international. That asking price is expected to put off several clubs from completing a deal for Sancho this summer and Klopp has suggested that he expects the 20-year-old to spend another season with Dortmund. When asked about Liverpool potentially signing Sancho this summer, Klopp told Bild: ‘A red jersey would look very good on Jadon Sancho. Jurgen Klopp says he would be ‘surprised’ if Jadon Sancho joined Liverpool this summer (Getty Images)‘But I don’t think such a transfer will take place this summer. ‘He is a very interesting player. If he moved to Liverpool, I would be the most surprised of all.’ Jurgen Klopp insists Liverpool do not need a squad overhaul (AFP via Getty Images)Klopp also dismissed the suggestion that Liverpool will need to overhaul their squad following their Premier League title win. ‘This team doesn’t need a break,’ said the Liverpool manager. ‘I cannot promise that we will dominate football now, nor do I know if it is time to talk about major upheavals, but I know that our goal is to keep the team’s tribe together. ‘The boys are currently in a great football age.’ Follow Metro Sport across our social channels, on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Sancho has been strongly linked to a move back to the Premier League (Picture: Getty Images)Borussia Dortmund’s head of licensing player department, Sebastian Kehl, says the club believe Jadon Sancho will remain in Germany next year, despite strong links to Manchester United and Liverpool. The 20-year-old is United’s top priority summer signing, but with over two years left on his contract, the Bundesliga outfit are demanding upwards of £115 million for his services. Reports emerged earlier this week that Liverpool are leading the race for Sancho, but Kehl quickly shut down those rumours. ‘There is nothing to it,’ Kehl told Sky in Germany ‘We’d like to think that he will continue to play for us next season.’ Solskjaer views Sancho as a top target (Picture: Getty Images)Sancho has been in inspired form this season, registering 17 goals and 16 assists in just 27 league appearances. The England international has so far resisted temptation to fuel the flames of a potential move elsewhere, preferring to keep his head down. And Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson encouraged his international teammate to carry on focusing on his football amid all the transfer talk. ‘Sancho, a lot of people are speaking about him but he is a top player, a special player. ‘In training he has got something different and he’s sharp and he can get past players with ease. But also he’s got a good head on his shoulders, he loves football he wants to improve, wants to listen, wants to learn. Klopp missed out on Werner (Picture: Getty)Jurgen Klopp described Chelsea-bound Timo Werner as a ‘great player’ but admitted it could be a quiet transfer window for Liverpool amid the coronavirus pandemic. Liverpool were thought to be the favourites to land the Germany international but Chelsea are set to trigger his release clause after agreeing personal terms. Klopp reportedly called Werner to deliver the news that Liverpool would not be able to trigger his £53million release clause, leaving Chelsea clear to sign him. And while he clearly rates Werner, it appears his hands are tied over transfers this summer. ‘There are a lot of good players on this planet,’ Klopp toldSky Germany. ‘Timo Werner is a great player, Kai Havertz is a great player. ‘There are all sorts of rumours in England about who Manchester United are going to pick, Chelsea are going to pick. (Photo by MI News/NurPhoto via Getty Images)‘It’s rather quiet here (at Liverpool) at the moment, I think it’s safe to say. ‘If you want to take it seriously and run a normal business and depend on income and have no idea how much you will earn… especially because we don’t know when we can start playing with spectators again. ‘At the moment, all clubs are losing money. Manchester United have been linked with a move for Kai Havertz (Picture: Getty)Manchester United have been urged to sign Kai Havertz ahead of Chelsea and Liverpool, with Dietmar Hamann claiming the Bundesliga star would improve any team in the Premier League. Germany international Havertz has developed into one of Bayer Leverkusen’s best and most important players since making his first-team debut in 2016, scoring 43 goals in 143 appearances for the club. The 20-year-old has attracted interest from a number of teams, with Premier League rivals United, Chelsea and Liverpool all interested in securing his signature this summer. Hamann says it is ‘very clear’ that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United needs reinforcements and has talked up a move for ‘terrific’ Havertz. ‘I think a lot of Premier League clubs will be interested in him, he’s a terrific player and there’s not many better around at the moment,’ he told Sky Sports. ‘If you look at Manchester United, it’s very clear they need new personnel going forward, and I think he’d improve pretty much every team. ‘Liverpool are a bit different with the way they set-up and play, but besides that I think he improves every team. Havertz is one of the stars of the Bundesliga (Picture: Getty)‘Before the break people were talking about three figures, a hundred-odd million, if that’s a price any club is prepared to pay in the summer, I’m not sure, but the likelihood is he will leave Leverkusen and take on another challenge in the summer.’ Another Bundesliga player attracting interest from the Premier League is England international Jadon Sancho, who scored a hat-trick on his first start since the division resumed as Borussia Dortmund thrashed Paderborn 6-1 on Sunday. Owen Hargreaves believes Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal would all ‘love’ to strike a deal for the forward. Former Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Germany star Didi Hamann (Picture: Getty)‘He makes every team better, that’s for sure,’ Hargreaves told BT Sport. ‘Everyone would love to have him. ‘Man United, Man City, Liverpool, I think he’s that good that he gets in all of them. United, Chelsea and Arsenal would all love to have him. ‘It depends on personnel and who could afford him? It will cost a lost but he’s a generational talent, truly remarkable with his goals and assists and he can play in different positions. ‘He’s going to cost a lot but he’s worth it, I’d love to see him back in the Premier League.’ MORE: TV Matt Lucas and Channel 4 newsreader Jon Snow shock happy couple on wedding dayGeneral Hospital spoilers: More classic Nurses Ball episodesMan Utd target budget defender as alternative signing to Kalidou KoulibalyFollow Metro Sport across our social channels, on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
