Be open about who you are, and here's why

I work at a sandwich shop in a very conservative city in Idaho (VERY VERY red state). Part of the job is having small talk with customers to keep up a friendly attitude. I tend to talk about my wife.

I'm a lesbian.

I don't force her into conversations. For example, if someone mentions a trip to Europe, I say, "oh man, where are you going? .... Oh dude, cool. My wife and I were actually in Spain a few months ago, we loved it." Usually, if people are decent, the conversation will continue. If not, they will raise their eyebrows and pretend as if I haven't said anything. Usually, the former is what happens.

(I am rarely ridiculed. I do not act ashamed, and I think that makes it hard for people to shame me)

Now, a young man who frequents the shop decided to ask for my number. He knows about my wife and I know about his, so I wasn't nervous and I didn't see any harm.

He starts to text me. Nervously at first, and I soon find out why. SHE is transgender and looking for friends. She tells me that the fact that I was so casual and open about my own life gave her courage to be open with me about hers.

Be you. If it is safe and possible, be open about your "alternative" life until it no longer seems "alternative." It gives the shy and scared and unsure around you permission and strength to do the same

Ok, this is an interesting discovery. Basically, it’s Bob Daisley, Lee Kerslake, and Don Airey - who all played on the original - with Australian singer Jimmy Barnes and legendary Kansas and Deep Purple guitarist Steve Morse. Apparently, Daisley wanted to re-record a bunch of the Ozzy songs he’d written and not received credit for. 

Although Morse is an amazing guitarist and in no doubt capable of playing Randy Rhoads’s parts, it’s disappointing that he cuts the famous outro solo very short.
