New Home Owners Journal #8: DRIVEWAY FRAMED! Do you see what I see?!? Our Driveway is finally framed! I don’t know why it’s such an exciting thing to see LOL. I’m excited to imagine hosting gatherings for our friends and family and seeing the driveway full. I’m excited to imagine the driveway empty so I can work out on it. I’m excited to imagine just our freaking driveway! Lollll As you can see, they’ve finished putting the shingles onto our house, so we officially have a roof on our home! Thank goodness nothing horrible has happened before the roof was installed. They put this on pretty fast so no rain came onto the home. On the inside, as you can see - we’ve been writing stuff onto the studs LOL. VV’s putting Taylor Swift song lyrics all over the house. Meanwhile, I’m just writing quotes that I live by around the house lolllll. I’m surprised she hadn’t put Monsta X quotes all over the house cause she’s super into this Kpop group now. She probably hasn’t because it might be hard writing in Korean LOL. Lastly, the last picture shows progress of the other homes at the other end of the street as well! You can see there’s one house that’s coming up pretty quickly (they’re about to start their roofing!). There are also other lots that are beginning to build as well (take note of the dirt poured areas). Neighbors - you’re welcome, I’m documenting your progress as well! New Home Owners Journal #6: Insulation station! We’re out here while they’re installing the insulation foam boards onto our home. Walking inside the home with the insulation foam boards up gave us a glimpse of how the rooms will look and feel whenever the actual dry walls are up. To our surprise, the rooms look and feel a little bigger now with these foam boards up and we’re not just “imagining” the rooms without walls haha. During this process they were still installing studs on the inside of the home. Today was the first day we saw the staircase put together! Super exciting as we finally are able to walk up to the second story and take a peek into each of the upstairs bedrooms. So tempting right now to plan where our guest room, game room, and nursery room will be placed haha! Lastly, if you take a look at the aerial view, it seems as if the other houses on the street are starting to come up as well! You can see all of the other houses are each at a different phase that our house has already been through! ⁃ Dirt, Foundation, Cement Pour, Lumber Framing. New Home Owners Journal #5: The framing for our 2nd floor is up! The structure is coming together! We’re the first in our street to get our house up and I can’t wait to see how many more neighbors we meet and see along the way. Walking through the entire home with the lumber put up allowed us to get a feel for each room and how we’re going to use each space. Not going to lie - with no walls up, no furniture - the space feels small still, but this was already warned to us by our builders. At this point we’re impatient. Let’s get the walls up already! Haha. We absolutely LOVE how spacious our patio is. We can foresee us using this space a lot once the house is completely done. Towards the end of the cluster of pictures you can see me and @agent.fitzy racing down the street haha. Obviously I lost… What’s amazing about this street is that I can foresee it being completely safe for running around, shootin some hoops at the cul de sac, water gunning, etc. Ahhh the visions. New Home Owners Journal #4: The framing for the first floor is up! It’s super exciting to envision where the rooms are going to be and how we’re going to use the space even though NOTHING is in yet except for the lumber haha. Going to be super honest and say that it feels like a room or two feels small, but the builder assured us that’s what everyone says because nothing is in yet. Once the walls, floors, and ceiling is put up then I should be able to feel how spacious every room is. Nonetheless, my feelings are just all of excitement currently and walking through every room on the first floor with @vvtran91 makes me get the feels honestly. Additionally, some of our future neighbors have started to build homes on their lots too (see picture #5)! Can’t wait till we meet them and I hope they’re super awesome like a few that we’ve met already! (@dannyburkephoto , @tammyi007 , @jack.mx5 @_missbear91_ ) We’re in the midst of shopping for security monitoring systems and have narrowed our choices down to @adtsecurity vs. @vivint . If you have one or the other, which should we go with?? We’re lookin for deals! One more thing, we BOTH think that Fitzy realizes this is going to be her new home. Every time we come here (and we’ve been coming every weekend at this point), just goes BIZZERK, just running around everywhere with excitement! New Home Owners Journal #3: Our foundation is in! I got here at 7:00am and saw everything unfold. The forming was done and the sub base was prepped already prior to these pictures taken. Then at around 10:00am alllllllll of these cement trucks showed up (as you can see in the pictures). Big Red Daddy came in at around 10:30am, the cement was placed, and I saw the first ounce of cement poured onto the foundation. I never thought I’d be so excited to see something like that but it’s definitely cool to see firsthand everything that goes into me and @vvtran91 ’s home. After pouring they screwed and floated the concrete to make it smooth and leveled. Alas, the concrete is now finished! My drone was able to capture everything from the sky. Recorded it all and took some nice pictures too. Moving out (April 2020)! It’s weird to think that we’ll be moving at out the end of this month. We’ve been at our apartment complex for 2.5 years now and will be taking on the next step in our lives together being homeowners! In the meantime, we’ll be relocating to the Upper Kirby area with our Quaran-team (@huangger & @sleepalldaysnackallnight)! We can’t wait to show you more updates regarding the new house! New Home Owners Journal #1: The journey has begun! We’ve signed the contract, went through 2 design center appointments, a ConnectOne meeting for our future smart home, and a pre-construction meeting! I’d say the most rewarding part in this process is getting to understand the ins and outs of our home. From the placement of outlets, to what kind of handles we want on our cabinets, it all was a flush of information thankfully we were kind of prepared for! The floor plan that @vvtran91 and I chose from @davidweekleyhomes was the perfect floor plan for us. We wanted something that isn’t going to be “overkill”, however we also wanted something to give us room to prepare for the future! There is plenty of yard space for @agent.fitzy and any doggy friends that might want to come over and play with her! Researching and doing our homework prior to building our own home was an essential part in making the whole process less stressful. I’m personally thankful we took a whole year to do our research, searching for inventory homes as well as diving into and meeting with so many different builders. It all made the process so much easier when we finally decided to build our own home WITH David Weekley Homes. DWH has been such a great partner to work with thus far. We’re constantly in touch with the builder/developer/DWH. I’ve heard of many horror stories about building your own home and I think it first depends on who your builder is. Our DWH representative and builder/developer have been keen on keeping us up to date as well as informed about the ins and outs of our home so I couldn’t be more thankful for having them as partners in this process with us. More updates to come!!! Super happy that some of our closest friends have been able to meet us during the first stages of our home!
