In The Heights

This is such a good musical!!!!!!!!!! YES. So here are my musical recommendations for if you like In The Heights.

You’ve probably listened to this one, but it’s Lin Manuel Miranda and I feel like it should be mentioned: HAMILTON. the story of the origins of America, told through the story of Alexander Hamilton, first secretary of treasury of America. Lin Manuel Miranda’s most critically acclaimed musical, featuring a score of hip hop and rap, this musical is sure to blow your socks of.

Next rec: Come From Away. One of my personal favs. You may have heard of it, you may not. It has been granted multiple Tony’s, is now up for multiple Olivier Awards in London as well (9, if i’m not mistaken) but as far as I can see it does not have a large fanbase, so though you may have heard a little about it, chances are you may not have listened to it (at least, I can name a lot of musicals that I have heard about but have yet to listen to that are critically acclaimed, like The Band’s Visit). Come From Away, I can’t describe it other than pure heartbreak. This story follows a group of passengers who are stranded on Newfoundland, Canada when the tragedy of 9/11 hits. But since this story is so far removed from the scene, 9/11 is more of a background thing. This musical is based on real life happenings; people who were actually there. The story is absolutely heartbreaking but it also isn’t; if you listen to it, you’ll find out why. Come From Away is a musical that promotes community in small town life, and coming together even in the worst of times, which is why I’d definitely recommend it if you like In The Heights (cause let’s be real, The Heights are basically a seperate village).

One other musical that I’d like to mention is The Band’s Visit. As said, I have not listened to it yet. But from what I know of the story, I do kinda feel like it has the same… feel basically. and if not, it swept at the 2018 Tony’s so it must be kinda good right?
