I’ve seen some of your TFP posts and I agree with you on one thing: I do not like Miko. I’ve done a few posts on Tumblr and TikTok myself where I talk about why I think she’s the worst written character in the show/franchise.
She does have her good moments, but those aren’t enough to make up for her lack of depth and development. While she may have calmed down somewhat in season three, she was still basically the same by the end. She’s sneaked off on her own without basically anyone’s knowledge and never faced real consequences for them. And there’s no real reason for her recklessness, the show never hints at why she is the way she is. If that was explored in someway, it might have helped in understanding her character better.
If Miko was properly reprimanded for her mistakes, and actually learned from them, I might have liked her more. I genuinely believe she had the potential to be a good character, but the writers just dropped the ball with her one too many times, and I don’t think I’ll ever like the version we got in the show.
Thanks for sending this ask! I've been involved in other fandoms lately and it's been sooo long since I've thought in depth about Miko from Transformers Prime.. she is such an interesting character from that show.
On the one hand, it's nice to have a female character who is tough and likes wrestling and rock 'n roll. Then on the other, much more prominent hand, she is absolutely unbearable in the way she is written in the show itself. Like, holy shit ya'll. The whole purpose of her character from the get-go is just to use her to initiate conflict via her stupidity and recklessness. It feels like a Glass Cliff situation.. Miko is put in this position of being a unique female character who COULD be kinda cool and subversive, but then she is set up to fail by purposefully make her as unlikable and annoying as possible for a solid two seasons. (and honestly, she only got better because the humans got less of a role as things went on which was fine by me.) And maybe it wasn't purposeful, but it damn sure felt like it. She was used by the writers almost exclusively as the human who causes trouble on purpose that the Autobots have to spend that episode dealing with.
There was definitely a way to make Miko a good character. Transformers Prime seemed to be doing everything in its power to prevent that. (Which is why I wrote her into a lot of fanfictions where she does reckless things but in a less obnoxious and annoying way lol)
Oh also, yeah, I totally hate her design. Too many colors. Fine on a human being, but bad on an animated character.
