I never really talked about his personality so here we go! Pan was generally calm and stoic pre-zanado and has become pretty much unflappable since then because really heightened emotions can cause him to partially transform, a borderline painful experience. Tho he can be very funny and expressive when he wants to be, usually around his fam. He also tries to lie about his past as little as possible, usually by giving vague, general answers or even outright ignoring/deflection the question. Sometimes he will take the funny route if other people are present, Hanneman has been a victim of this.

He is very observant and has great judgement, it also translates into having decent foresight. But self-esteem issues combined with survivor's guilt + other stuff makes him feel like he has to do everything by himself. He thrives in an environment where there are people who he can support and who will support him in turn but ends up depriving himself of it. Which is why he's at his best when given responsibility of many people, like during the War of Eagle and Lion or the war in canon era.

This also makes him seem like a massive hypocrite in his Dimitri interactions lol. He's all like "You need to let others help and support you, it is our bonds that give us true strength" while also not telling his fam anything.

He was anti-empire from the beginning. He saw that the nabateans had little value beyond their powers to the nobility, afraid that they would end up becoming living tools for the empire. The rest dismissed him as being paranoid, he was in a pretty bad mental state after all.

Kyphon, while leading a small company of men, comes across a stranger who warns him about Imperial soldiers headed their way and offers to act as a lookout. Not wanting to risk their cover, he sends one of his trusted men with the stranger. Everything went smoothly and they were able to escape notice. Kyphon thanks the stranger and promises to lend aid were they to meet again in the future.

Then he and Loog meet this stranger Again, who gets them out of a bind Again. Loog is very grateful and says they're in his debt, the stranger just shrugs it off and leaves. Then they meet a third time and Kyphon asks if he has been following them. The stranger reluctantly admits that he has 'been curious about this movement and wished to see where it would lead' and finally introduces himself as [REDACTED], a mage and a scholar. Loog says some pretty words and convinces him to join.

Right after he joins some Srengese guy in the army comments that the new guy reminded him of Pan, a minor deity in his land, seen as a shepherd who protects them from the wilds, with the way he led them away from the Adrestians. Everyone thought this was the coolest thing ever and started calling him Pan.

Pan just goes with the flow, if they think this nickname is cooler who's he to stop them? Hence everyone forgot what he actually said his name was.

Weapon hcs: Durability is an important game mechanic but the implementation kinda sucked regarding relics so I made up my own version. Having to farm umbral steel to repair relics makes no sense worldbuilding-wise, like how did they repair these things when demonic beasts were next to non-existent? So in my version they can repair themselves like SotC. If you need them repaired faster, you can embue them certain kind of magic to accelerate the process. This is also how sacred weapons work, the magic infused in them repairs the weapon but you can still use mythril.

Would she try to recruit him, as Flamey? Maybe pull something like the enemies of my enemies are my allies (unless they're stinky lizards, they can be my allies for 2 seconds before I backstab them)?

I never thought about it like this!! Their dynamic would be absolutely hilarious! I can only imagine this ending in (not) betrayal at the holy tomb where he kills all the main players and prevents the war from happening. Edelgard, lying in the pool of her own blood, asks "Why?" His only reply is "Shouldn't have called us vile creatures that need to be exterminated." And she has a look of RealizationTM on her face.

Poor Pan though, but I wonder how he would have reacted to Jerry if Jerry told him his kid wasn't "normal", would he become protective of Billy who's, regardless of everything, part of his fam, or would he berate Rhea on not having told that human a thing about this Billy child?

Pan would get upset at Jerry regardless of Billy's lizardness. It's not Rhea's fault he's a terrible father! He has seen many humans with these traits and they don't deserve to be treated like this either!

Billy: I only found out I had a last name after coming to the monastery.

In a different hc/au Pan arrives at GMM while Citrus was around and he becomes her uncle figure. Rhea explains everything about Citrus & the previous homunculi, and also Jerry. So when he sees Jerry try to woo his 20 year old niece, every protective instinct in his body goes on full alert. He becomes their ultimate cockblocker and Jerry had never wanted to strangle anyone more. Citrus however has no clue what's going on and is just enjoying spending time with her uncle and that other guy who brings flowers sometimes :')

It's Schrödinger's hand holding! The benefit of hcs is that you can have contradictory ones at the same time! In the verses where they do hold hands, Pan reveals who he is and Loog'n'Kyphon are super cool with it and tell no one!

Nabateans trying to be vague about their past is my bread and butter lol, at least it's better than Seteth coming up with "Flayn is my daughter, it's totally true (and a foolproof disguise, I mean we managed to trick humans by using hair dye so this should work)" or Flayn who routinely forgets she's not supposed to be a lizard!

It must be sad to have to restrain his emotions to avoid transformation though...

They all need to be around people lol but yeah, it's awesome how we can agree that some nabateans need to be around people, to help them and also to be helped, but someone said "no pointy ears" so they have to hide or disappear in a certain route...

Too bad he would be proven right a few years down the drain (1k!) but again, it's all about the right or wrong people being in charge, even if from a logical point of view, what should prevent the Willy gang from dicing Rhea'n'the others to gain more power or to use them as tools, as the humans following Nemesis did?

IIRC in Claude's paralogue it's mentionned some people in Sreng worship the weird beast that is actually Macuil? Maybe the "minor deity Pan" was also another Nabatean? Or another being entirely.

Citrus tells Pan how Jerry is nice, he tells her stories and brings her flowers, he's kind for a human!

Then Pan will also have to deal with Aelfric also trying to woo her, and Rhea's useless because she calls Aelfric "her child" while Pan has to explain her that no for human, if they are both "her children" they can't court!

It would be hilarious for he and Rhea to have "edit wars", Rhea pushing the "Bestest Greatest Emperor to have existed Willy" while Pan pushes the "super brave and strong and courageous King Loog", and children of the monastery will judge, if they prefer to play "pretend I'm the super king of Lions" Pan wins, but if they prefer to play "I'm the Great Emperor who defeated the evil nemesis!" Rhea wins.

I'm gonna answer your questions and elaborate on previously stated hcs. Will probably make a part 2 sometime in the future. Lots of things to share but I keep losing steam writing it all down.

He was a scholar in Zanado! He's the naturally curious type, decently knowledgeable at flora & fauna, weaponry & warfare, and art & literature. He tries to learn about anything he finds interesting, including humans doing human things, even post-WoH. That's one of the reasons he knew what Faerghus' situation was and decided to help them.

No, he doesn't dual-wield (often). He uses the less fancy, non-healing sword for skirmishes and stuff, and uses the cool nabatean one for bigger conflicts.

Hair colour thing is from the crest stone damage. Supreme Leader has more than enough reasons to hate him lol. 1) he keeps killing TWS agents. 2) Stalks the ones he couldn't kill and thwarts their plans. 3) Somehow Knows secrets she's trying to hide. She doesn't find out he's a lizard until much later. (There are many benefits to premature greying)

I have this post-canon scene in mind where Rhea comes clean to her fam about the stuff she was up to. Seteth and Flayn are utterly shocked but Pan's just sipping his tea, his entire being screaming 'disappointed but not surprised'. Rhea is surprised at this reaction and Pan just says "I've known you your entire life, I know the kinda unhinged stuff you're capable of. Doesn't mean I approve tho."

I also have another thingy that's part of a different set of hcs on how Pan could interact with canon. So Pan first meets billy post-timeskip (or just before timeskip) and immediately starts trying to figure out wtf is going on with them. He comes to the conclusions that 1) billy is a hybrid, hence must be protected 2) they are not Nemesis-spawn but have Sothis' creststone in them because that's the other (original) way to get a crest AND is needed to use a heroes' relic 3) this better not be Rhea's doing, he swears to Sothis he's gonna bury himself under a mountain for the next millennia.

His opinion on Sothis resurrection is that it's impossible. Like, She's their progenitor, capable of creating countless nabateans without breaking a sweat. It is impossible for them to even comprehend the kind of power she holds, much less awaken/bring back that power with the means they have. It's much more productive on focusing on the betterment of Fodlan and protect the ones who are still alive. But he understands her feelings of wanting her mother back and doesn't comment too much on this.

I've also got a whole another au where Pan is a sulking little dragon on top of Conand tower, getting pestered by multiple generations of teenaged nobles.

I hcd Seteth being disappointed, hurt, but more angry at Rhea, not for trying to resurrect her, but because she never told him a thing, and how desperate she was (she doesn't trust him anymore? why) and feels bad for not having seen signs earlier, whereas Flayn just, hugs her - it doesn't matter if she's not the super uberwoman she thought she was, nor if she actually cannot look and guide Fodlan on her own - she's still her super cool aunt and it's her time to look after her now.

Macuil is the one who goes "idiot I knew you were useless and worthless" but leaves a Zanado fruit - on her table - just because his pockets are full! - while Indech is the one who doesn't say a thing, but looks at her with the "disapproving older brother glare" but wouldn't say a thing.

I feel like Seteth's loss of power comes from a mental block. He was so focused on guarding Cethleann that he had no time to think about his powers and whatnot so the connection just loosened...

I hc that the nabateans naturally start losing their power if you don't practice every once in a while and become disconnected/stop thinking about their other form.

Indech lost much of his power (maybe even the ability to transform) because all he did was nap in his pond and prank unsuspecting humans, while Pan, despite the nerf, was able to regain his strength and maintain it because he regularly trained and fought.

Funnily enough, Pan looks up to Cichol and thinks his inner strength & dedication is admirable, and will openly admit it at times ("Your books on strategy and warfare helped me quite a bit!"), while also finding him stiff and overbearing. So Cichol bullying continues lol

A Thought I've had recently (yesterday): The parallel between Seiros'n'Willy and Pan'n'Loog, and even Billy'n'TheirLord. I want to know what you think of them before I get my thoughts in order.

It's always interesting to hear about different hc or perspectives, for my part I've always hc nabateans as being able to shift no matter what*, because shifting is an innate ability and part of who they are, they are "human-passing" but not totally humans, no matter the years, they will still be nabateans (but i'm more aligning them to Laguz than to Manaketes).

*save for when their magic is not stable bcs of trauma, Seiros the Warrior just after Zanado couldn't shift (nor use magic at all!) and it's after reuniting with her family and finding a trusted ally in Willy that she was able to use her magic again (and shift at will) - as for Cichol, it'd be a mental block and trauma from not being able to protect his wife and daughter that is still present nowadays - Indech prefers to adopt his turtle form because it scares humans and it's funny to see their reactions when he talks to them, and Macuil doesn't want to be associated to humans so he prefers his bestial form.

Still, your perspective is also interesting, and opens another world of possibilities for various hcs !

I like how we hc Cichol as being an inspiration and model to other nabateans, but it's always under the assumption that the nabatean will call him "stuffy and boring" first. You have no idea how happy I was when I discovered Macuil casually insults him in the jp version lol, he doesn't say Sothis stinks, but calls his bro an idiot or something!

From what I can get from your Hcs, Lizard Pan, much like Rhea, would be a Nabatean that started to have faith in humanity and in a future (?) after interacting with a human they came to trust (did Pan and Loog hold hands or something?) - which is a bit different from Billy, imo Billy started to look towards the future and have a goal not due to their students/picked lord, but because of Garreg Mach and their new job as a teacher!

His hair gradually lost colour over centuries. The once dark green had become a dull grey-green by the rebellion, and dark grey (darker than ashe's hair) by canon era.

He has never shared his crest with anyone, but has thought about giving it to Vestra I (because he's the only competent guy around) many times before dismissing the idea.

He joined Loog'n'Gang 2 years before the War of the Eagle and Lion (WoEaL) officially started. Back then they were gathering soldiers and resources, and testing the waters with small scale assaults.

It's considered rude to not look away when someone is transforming, its the equivalent of watching someone change clothes.

The sacred weapons (assel, begalta, etc.) were named after previous, long dead nabateans, from heroes who fought against agarthans to artisans incredibly skilled in their craft.

Cichol loved humans more than the other nabateans. He loved hanging out in their cities and churches and whatnot. Everyone bullied Cichol when he grew a beard because its considered a human thing. Too bad for them he found a nabatean who shared his oddities and they fell in love.

I always felt bad for Nabateans though, Seteth'n'Flayn must abandon their names - maybe the name Cethleann's mom picked for her! - for their safety, idk maybe it's me putting too much thoughts on the concept of identity, but like forgetting or having to hide your own name always makes me kind of sad.

TBH, I'm really curious about this, because while I understand this Pan doesn't hold children accountable for the sins of their ancestors, idk how he'd feel about the descendants of the Elites - on paper - rebelling against the Empire that was supposed to support Nabateans, are Elites wanting to seize more power again? Are they a threat against Nabateans? But then, if he lived with them and learnt they weren't trying to get new relics but just trying to survive while Lycaon III was chopping Northerners for funsies, it might have led him to reconsider.

Which makes me wonder, what is Pan's opinion on Rhea's plan (if he ever learns about it) ? Does he think only Sothis can save Fodlan, like her, or think she's desperate and wants to find a way out, or something else?

One of my main hcs is that Rhea is the only Nabatean we know who's directly Sothis' child, and there were a lot more of them who were born like Cethleann (full lizard). But because of their long life and social structure, pretty much everyone knows one another and is at least on friendly terms.

Turtle, Birdie and Cichol may be siblings but it doesn't really matter cuz Cethleann calls every nabatean who is close to her father's age uncle/auntie :')

General Pan stuff:

He's the Metal Dragon. His crest ability allows him to control metallic objects, kinda like telekinesis but only for metals. This is a lot more powerful in his dragon form, where he can liquidify his metallic scales and make pretty much anything he wants. His title is Glimmering Armour cuz he's very sturdy and shiny.

The Fire Dragon is his sister! But she's Luín now RIP. It was getting hit by her that made him force-transform. He knows a lot of fire magic because she's awesome.

Out of the surviving ones he's closest to Rhea cuz they were good friends pre-zanado. He's the one who taught her swordsmanship cuz he's considered one of the best. He also got to know Indech better during WoH cuz they're both holed up together lol. He visits the pond often to talk and hang out.

He and Macuil have a weird rivalry type relationship. They will badmouthing each other at every opportunity and will get into fights sometimes. Macuil is better at magic and Pan is better at physical/weapons arts. Pan/Macuil rivals to lovers 2000+ years slow burn

He didn't have a high opinion of Willhelm because he was Going Though It and willy's kinda stupid. He knew smth was going on with Seiros and Willy but he really didn't want to think about it so all he ever really said was 'your taste in men is horrible'.

The damaged crest stone caused the magic flow in his body to become unstable, that's why he force-transformed like that. In his travels after WoH he pretty much had to relearn magic and was able to get everything back under control so he's better now! But the damage can't be fully undone so now he can't go into regenerative sleep and his normal self-healing has gone down. He can still transform normally but has to stay in one form for at least a few days before turning back, otherwise he might damage his body/crest stone even more.

To answer your questions:

In his travels he was able to see how Adrestia kept falling into depravity and became disillusioned with humanity. By the time of the rebellion he doesn't have a sliver of hope in the nobles or their emperor.

He hadn't met Rhea since he left after the war. He had no clue where Cichol and Cethleann are. He doesn't want to involve other nabateans anyway because he fears for their safety. But he will put himself in danger because self-worth issues and he believes he can't be relic'd with the damaged crest stone. Imagine Rhea's surprise when she arrives at Charon for the peace treaty and sees who Faerghus' strategist is.

He liked humans and thought they were okay but kinda weird pre-zanado. That later changed to 'I may not like humanity much now but that doesn't mean I'm gonna punish children for the sins of their parents.' Fighting with Loog and Faerghus gang brought him hope. They showed him that people aren't so bad after all! But having a child with a human is a big no-no in his books.

He dotes on Cethleann and later Cyril a lot! He considers himself 'the cool uncle', doing stuff like teaching them swear words, making them treats, keeping an eye on them without being overbearing, etc. They think he's very cool.

Yes, he dyed his hair, and got very annoyed with others when they didn't do it properly.

I had a similar HC, that being "hit" by a Relic does weird shenanigans to a Nabatean, and if their crests are similar/compatible it hijacks their own magic, sometimes messing up with their transformations.

Is he the one who taught her how to spin with a sword? But I always loved the idea of Seiros the Warrior having been taught stuff by her brothers, magic comes from Macuil, brawling from Indech... Cichol tried to teach her how to use a spear, but she only went to D rank because he was boring, or something.

Or worse, Rhea, as Seiros the Warrior, tells Pan "look brother, I refine your technique, now I spin in midair, and this move is very cool and deadly!"

Oh, I had a kind of similar HC for Cichol - the trauma after losing his wife and Cethleann was so heavy and he spent 1k years angsting about Cethleann that his body became unstable, and that's why he cannot transform anymore - theoretically, he can since he managed to relearn magic (even if he sucks at it compared to his fam) - but the trauma from the WoH nerfs him unconsciously (instead of "real" damage like your Pan) and he cannot go in "lizard sleep mode" or heal as fast as a Nabatean should.

So it's more of a middle ground - he doesn't have hope in them but still doesn't want to kill the descendants of the Elites, hopefully some Faerghians (again? Or it's the first time in canon?) made him have faith in humans again!

About the Lizard!Pan hc. I haven't decided on any names yet so he'll just be Pan for now.

To start off, he was at Zanado when Nemesis came around. He somehow survived but his crest stone got damaged, but not enough to turn him into a black beast. No one knew how this would effect him until his first battle in the War of Heroes. He faces one of the Elites, they injured him and he immediately transforms. Thankfully he only attacks the opponents, flails around a bit and collapses. Seiros has to come up with scriptures to cover That up. Pan is benched for the rest of the war and is more paranoid and depressed than ever.

After the war, all the other saints go off on their own, Seiros is building a Monastery and Pan does not trust himself to be around so many humans so he bids her farewell and goes off to roam the land and investigate how the whole relic thing happened. At first he finds nothing, but slowly he starts noticing some clowns trying to start conflicts.

Fast forward to the Faerghus rebellion, he knows the clowns will try to influence these people so he sneakily follows them around. Lo and behold, the slitherers try to interfere and he disposes of them. After following the rebels for so long, he grows sympathetic to their cause. Surely he can help them out a bit, right? So he joins Loog's Squad and becomes a strategist. Since we don't know a thing about the war of eagle and lion idk how to proceed, I just come up with random moments.

I always wondered about the Bobs (the blue "natural" demonic beasts we meet, like on Sothis's paralogue, apparently their crest stone is damaged?) but it'd be too sad for a Nabatean like Pan to be afraid of going berserk :(

I wonder how he'd deal with the War of the Eagle and the Lion, Adrestia was their ally, but he grew fond of the Faerghus bunch! Did he try to talk some sense in the "emperor of that time" or asked Rhea to "do something" with the current Hresvelg Emperor?

Was Pan one of Sothis's direct kid, or a second/third gen Nabatean? Is he older than Rhea? Seteth? Did he dote on Cethleann like Macuil and Indech? Did he get along with Cichol, Indech, Macuil and Rhea before the WoH? What was his reaction to Rhea's transformation from "look Mother I made a :) doll!" to "Seiros the Warrior"?

If he was benched during the War of Heroes, did he try to cheer Cichol up after Cethleann went to sleep? Was on Rhea or Macuil's side when it came to "dealing with the descendants of the Elites" before joining them in Faerghus?

Was he some sort of scholar in Zanado? What was his pov about humans before Nemesis's party? Is he still around in the current Fodlan? Did he become a dad to any half-lizards?
